Replying To moc.dna:  "Amazing how certain people are driving all around the country from province to province & county to county, all for the love of the game. Who seriously believes that these people are doing this for a few quid expenses.
Where are Revenue & the GAA on this, do they seriously believe that nobody sees what's going on, it's disgraceful & morally wrong.

As for certain names being bandied around for appointment, unless a sugar Daddy comes on the scene it is not going to happen, everyone knows that their is a serious lack of funds in Galway.
As for the fanciable idea that one of the Multinational's is waiting in the wings with an endless supply of cash, you can forget that as no Multinational is going to put their name & brand beside an organisation that has had serious financial irregularities in the past or be waiting wondering when is the next scandal going to break & have their name & brand associated with it.

Appointment should be local & their is enough talented managers out there, but as usual no one will touch the poisoned chalice or deal with all the politics that is rife."
Hard to know what to make of this post now. On the one hand it's saying that these managers are getting paid, and on the other hand that Galway are broke and can't pay the manager. Surely both them statements can't be true. And he is wondering why Revenue and the GAA can't do anything about it...

Not much point in any Galway men putting their name forward & managing underage teams from U14 to Senior & winning multiple All Ireland's with them, when they can't even be appointed In the race for Senior Manager. Instead they give it to someone outside the county that has managed no Inter County team at any level & will obviously come at a far greater cost considering the distance he has to come. Something seriously wrong when local candidates can't be appointed & one external candidate is gazumped at the last minute.
Will he now give up his RTE gig now that he is an Inter County manager.
It reflects badly on the Board that they couldn't appoint a Galway man.

Don't worry about it, probably went over your head.

He'll be in for the Kilkenny job if Cody ever decides to retire.. a bit nieve to think he wouldn't. Might as well manage elsewhere until that day comes round and I wouldn't see what the issue is. He's got experience and is a proven winner unlike some of the bucks putting their names forward for county jobs these days. Managing his own club to 2 All Ireland's is some achievement. If he gets you silverware you'll not be worried about him using Galway as a springboard.

I think it reflects well on the Board that they snared a top candidate.

If these serial underage title winning managers don't impress county board committees, or county senior panelists perhaps, they're unlikely to get the senior manager jobs. There's nothing that you, or I, or anyone else, can do about that. It doesn't reflect badly on anyone, except the unsuccessful candidates themselves, I would suggest.

Of course they get paid why else would they do it? You really think Shefflin has a love for Galway Hurling?
Records show only 2 Hurling Managers from outside Counties won Hurling All Irelands with other Counties. And that was Offaly .
My point is that there are 2 men Brian Hanley and Jeff Lynskey more than capable of bring Galway to the next level.
Galway hurling doesn't need a media circus following it . That will happen now with this appointment.

Aye, that time they appointed John O'Mahoney from Mayo over the footballers set the game in Galway back terribly didn't it. The county board have appointed a manager who will have the support of the players and the hurling public there, I'd say that's a fairly good outcome for them. Bit disappointing though for those with an agenda.

He is using us a springboard for the KK job. Some of his former teammates have dipped their toes in i/county mgt in recent yrs so it was only a matter of time before he made the leap given Cody will be vacating the KK job i would think in a few years. Huge questions on how this is being financed when apparently we had not a bean to play with. I hope the same resource is being made available to PJ and the footballers or you will see a change in the guard at the top table come convention. There will be a change i know as the current chair cannot run again but lots of questions. Having said all that Shefflin is a much better appointment than Davey. The latter would have been like Loughnane back in 2008 and left us in a worse state than we currently are in.

More important matters at hand

Senior 1/4 finals this weekend:
Cappy v Gort: Cappy to pull away for a finish, Gort to bottle as usual
Tommies v 'Bridge: toss of a coin here, i will say Tommies to make it into semis
Thomas's v Kilconieron: Declining St Thomas's to make it to the semis. They wont lift the trophy this year
Craughwell v K/L: Craughwell to make the semis with 6 or 7 to spare

Intermediate 1/4s:
Sylane v Kilimor: Sylane have been knocking on the door this last 2 years. Sylane to progess to semis
Carnmore v Moycullen: Clash of the intermediate weekend, Carnmore to make semis
Rahoon v Abbey: Rahoon going well this year after a dip this last 2. I expect them to progress
Eyrecourt v Kinvara: Eyrecourt for Senior, and to have this won by h/t.

I wouldn't put it past k/l to win and make semis

Disagree with atleast have those predictions....
Senior Quarter Finals
St.Thomas' v Kilconeiron..................Thomas'
Clairnbridge v Tommy Larkins.........The Bridge
Craughwell v Kilnadeema-Leitrim....Craughwell
Gort v Cappataggle............................Gort

Intermediate Quarter Finals
Meelick-Eyrecourt v Kinvara..................Eyrecourt
Killimor v Sylane......................................Killimor
Carnmore v Moycullen............................Carnmore
Abbeyknockmoy v Rahoon-Newcastle..Abbeyknockmoy
As you can see I'm sticking with so called traditional stronger hurling Clubs for the Semi Finals, this is in noway a disregard for so called weaker hurling Clubs/Areas!

John O Mahoney had a track record as an Inter County manager, Henry doesn't.
You seem to have difficulty grasping my posts but I understand in your rush to ghost my comments & knock them as you have done over the years, your rush to vent your anger on me clouds your judgement, hilarious as it is. If I was to worry what you think or what records you think I created here, I would be worrying about nothing.
Henry Shefflin has been welcomed by the general hurling fraternity in Galway, but that doesn't mean we can't question why for example Mícheál O Donoghue or Lynskey or Hanley weren't given the job & also how is this been funded when everyone knows the state of the finances. He might be welcomed but he will be judged on results. By the way, everyone in life has an agenda, just like your agenda here. Anyways off out on the bike now & leave it to you, byeee.

Has the problem of a non-Galway man managing the County disappeared overnight?

Replying To Stool Pigeon:  "If you're too stupid to grasp what I was saying, that's on you, not me. You're clearly not a fan of context. You're doing plenty of 'going on' yourself but that's your right, this is a discussion forum, so you can go on as long as you wish. I wont be trying to shut you down because I can't debate with you.

You've actually answered the question while claiming you can't understand 'where I am going with this' which is just baffling, so I have no idea what you're bleating about.

But I'll break it down for you. If you are NOT 'employed' by the CB you're not answerable to them or anyone else. Can you grasp that?

Thank you for breaking the news for me btw. I'll move where I like, btw, maybe you should follow your own advice instead of dishing it out and 'dealing in facts'. It's not serving you very well.

But on the positive side it looks like we both got an outcome we can be largely happy with."
Yes and I had the facts and am happy to post it, you are still going round and round about being employed by the cab.Shefflin is a good appointment, let's hope he is ruthless enough to make the hard calls that are needed to get us back to the top.

If King Henry can't make AI SENIOR hurling winners out of Galway, then I doubt that there's a man in Ireland that could. He's got 3 years to do it, and I'd say he'll fully need 'em.

Sure its no wonder I can't follow your posts, they just ramble on and are full of contradictions. I recall you stating here before that you are a Galway man but only go to rugby games and would never give a penny to the GAA in the county, tis no wonder you are so out of touch with it all. I'd say anyone who has the best interests of Galway hurling at heart are pleased with the appointment. I don't know what sort of revelation you think it is that Shefflin will be judged on results, I don't know of an intercounty manager who isn't judged on results.

Clearly not, judging by the nonsense from some posters on here. Most I've heard from think it's a positive appointment, but we'll see how it actually pans out on the pitch.
Looking forward to next year and I wish him the very best in the role.

For a Galway hurling supporter like yourself all your posts are very negative about the Galway team. Were you as negative when Micheal Donohoe was in charge when the AI was won in 2017? Cheer up a bit - it might never happen!
