Thought the pitch was in very rough condition and a lot of lads struggled to pick ball up first time. Grass looked long and patchy, very hard to make out thelines too. We're very far behind a lot of the top counties when it comes to having a top class plating surface, the difference between Pearse Satdium and Limerck, Thurles, Kilkenny etc is huge. Cork and Croke Park are obviously next level but still don't know why we can't have one up to the same standard as those other counties. Are you sure? What a pity the replay isnt in Kenny Park, the home of hurling in Galway. What a game last Sunday. I do think Thomass will edge it in the replay though. Great venue, but not ideal standing on the wet/soft ground the far side. Would love to see it get some TLC and host a lot more Galway games at all grades! Of the current pitches in Galway which one would be worth putting a few old quid in as far as room for expansion, location, etc. I assume Pearce Stadium is not the answer so where is the better/best choice? They hosted a good few club games in 2021 but the grass was long and the lines very hard to make out. However, in other years, it was a great venue, ideal for club games. Gort the same. The issue with these places is parking facilities etc. Kilbeacanty another great pitch, a lovely stand etc but dont have the parking facilities either. Ballinasloe is the obvious choice for investment. Motorway, parking, in a town with places to eat/drink/stay, already has floodlights. Would be great for the town if they hosted these games. Duggan Park Ballinasloe is the place. Old Town with big wide streets and a easy access motorway unlike Medieval Athenry town with narrow one-way streets. The Fair Green could be bought and smothered in concrete for a mega carpark. Obviously they would have to renvote the old stand and terraces... 13,000 was the old capacity but that was literally shoulder to shoulder packed!! Like the '94 Co. Invest more in the playing surface, which is not actually in bad condition considering the amount of rain we have had over the last few weeks. Ballinasloe would be a good choice, has a lot going for it. Don't think Athenry would be a bad choice either. Ballinasloe probably needs a serious amount of investment, the dressing rooms, Stands and facilities are probably up to 1990s standards, a few million is probably needed to bring it up Tullamore, Gaelic Grounds, Nowlan Park level.
