Certain people just have no grasp of reality, or of how the games go ahead! Certain people…!

Your bias against SOUTH GALWAY is showing lad!!! Ha ha. I'll take Thomas's in a close one! South Galway Abu!

I'd pick Thomas's and Clarinbridge and Sarsfields to take Portumna but not without a battle. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2223 - 17/10/2022 09:03:01 2444263 Link 1 |
They were very lucky. Andy Smith was very silly in the first few mins. Conditions were chronic too and I thought POrtumna got a few soft decisions throughout. Portumna seems to have unearthed a few players though. Despite the conditions - the ease with which Monaghan strikes the ball is great to watch. His form dipped for a couple of years but I'd hes a mainstay of the Galway team now. I'd imagine looking at the teams left that possibly the strongest teams are all there. Hopefully the rain stops now! tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 17/10/2022 09:04:56 2444264 Link 1 |
They werent on Friday with PP. Portumna were favs as I had Craughwell in an accumulator.

Agree, Cappy will fancy this, they should run them close. Turlough improving all the time, Loughrea very hard to beat. Clarinbridge should beat Larkins. Sarsfields should beat Portumna easily. Galwayspur (Offaly) - Posts: 231 - 17/10/2022 10:37:19 2444276 Link 1 |
The prices on Friday then were more realistic. They were 11/8 on the Boyles coupon which would have been printed earlier in the week. Craughwell were level at half time when playing against the wind but they never got going at all in the 2nd half.

of the 8 teams left most people would have predicted 6 from day 1. Tommy Larkins and especially Portumna are surprise features at this stage. I still dont think we are any the wiser of who will win however. I am pretty certain though, Portumna wont get to the final, Larkins and Cappy wont win a final, And doubt Turlough wouldnt either. Clarinbridge Sarsfields and especially Loughrea will fancy their chances at this stage. All have what it takes. Thomass still the favs but not by much. clare_sparrow (Galway) - Posts: 441 - 17/10/2022 14:36:53 2444344 Link 0 |
At the start of the year, I would've guessed Thomas's, Sarsfields, Clarinbridge would be the 4 semi finalists. Shows how strong that group was with those 4 in it. Castlegar and Killimordaly got awful draws there. The other group was a good bit weaker or so it seems to have been. Think Loughrea are the only serious challenger to come out of the other group. They could take Turloughmore. Two teams who had very dissapointing ends to their year last year. If Turloughmore play to their best they'll win but this is no guarantee with Turlough the last few years. Thomas's usually come take it up another notch from the quarter final (and that's saying something) so hard to see them caught this year again

Who cares? It's great there are matches to watch for the next month or so.

Maybe so but Portumna have gone further than many thought possible. Loughrea and Turloughmore IS a very Hard one to pick for me. I might have to copy Katser! Ha ha.

I'd be very confident in picking Turloughmore to beat Loughrea. Turlough have a more even spread of scorers around the field now that O'Hanlon and Whelan are fully concentrating on senior hurling with u20 done. I can't see the Loughrea forward line getting much change out of the Turloughmore back line. Daithi is hurling very well. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 806 - 17/10/2022 17:47:51 2444393 Link 2 |
They should be great games no doubt! Clarinbridge v Tommy Larkins has the hallmarks of a shoot out between E.Nilland and J.Flynn! Loughrea will definitely tare into Turloughmore, that could be a dirty physical battle! Cappataggle v St.Thomas' is going to be a humdinger! Cappy are quietly tipping away and still have mostly same team that lost 4 Semi Finals by a score...and believe they can beat Thomas' Portumna v sarsfields has the best player on site in JC they will relish playing against the bogmen from bullan/new Inn!!!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 17/10/2022 19:54:18 2444409 Link 1 |
Congrats to Ballygar on a great Junior A win , its great to see a Junior club go up , take in to account some of the players that they have lost to transfers im sure its a sweet one. I do think the county board should focus a bit more on the Junior clubs in development , there is talent in some of these teams and even a month of a Junior development squad with good coaching would be welcomed. Might unearth some hidden gems, would also raise standards in the junior clubs and thirdly would entice some of them dual club lads to continue hurling. puckemhard (Galway) - Posts: 230 - 18/10/2022 11:15:44 2444463 Link 1 |
Impressed with Clarinbridge. I wonder what some lads do be watching at all at all.

1-18 in terrible conditions is good scoring. Can't ask for any more than that. Combined with some key players not being fully fit yet (Foley came back to play 55 minutes and they got a few minutes into Christy Brennan), they are definitely going to have a big say in winning the cup.

1-18 with 0-14 coming from E.Nilland mostly frees

Frees are not given for nothing. Clear sign the opposition were under pressure.

I don't know but for some reason I have no faith in Tommy Larkins, I see Bridge winning that one. I'll be shocked if I'm wrong. But you're very right about Loughrea being physical. I'd pick Turloughmore in that one but if it gets dirty Loughrea will probably win. I favor Thomas's to finally wake up and get serious though it won't be easy. The Portumna match is a tough one. I'll take Sarsfields by a point.

They weren't. Ardrahan were the better team for much of the second half. Anyone who was impressed by Clarinbridge at the weekend honestly hasn't a scoobie.
