Mr Paddypower agrees with you anyway. Seems a few clubs in Galway have degressed a bit in the last few years. Ardrahan and Gort in particular? Also having seen Portumna around 2016-2018 I'd have thought theyd be destined for Intermediate by now. Very interested to see how they go at the weekend.

Sars and Cappy nearly the same place? Hardly delivering different compass readings.

I'd say the opposite about Ardrahan, they we're one of those teams people thought would make a break through around the mid part of the 2010s, think the were 3rd favorites in the bookies at the start of one season, they regressed very quickly for a few years after that for one reason or another. Have a nice young team now and will be improving for the coming years again back up in senior A. They were very competitive at A level in minor/u21, usually in latter stages, for a good few years. Those guys making up team now and for a good few years. Pity they don't have Johnny Glynn now (and Galway). Gort were a very good team from 2011-2017, won 2 County titles and probably should've won more, unlucky against Ballyhale in 2015 too. Those guys coming towards the end now and have lost a lot of players the last few years. Got to semi final last year but that was nearly the last kick of that very good team. Probably don't have the same caliber of player to replace those older guys. Only natural they're starting to slide.

Yeah but the more matches the better as we don't have a Provincial Championship like Munster and the others have.

The excitement is mounting for the eagerly anticipated all East Galway Co Intermediate Final today between Meelick-Eyrecourt v Killimor! In the words of John McEntire the biggest crowd of the year for a Galway Club match will be in the Duggan Park today!!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 15/10/2022 11:59:46 2444040 Link 1 |
Most of those teams that were relegated bar Moycullen haven't even been Close to winning intermediate since they wney down as a lot of them were struggling big time at senior B for a few years and probably would've been down a lot sooner only for the swelled number of senior teams that they'd win the odd game against a similar level team or a relegation final.

Just passed by Duggan Park in the past half hour. A huge crowd seems to have assembled there alright, despite poor weather conditions.

Congratulations to Turloughmore and Clarenbridge today. Great wins. Tough matches ahead! Loughrea v Turloughmore and Portumna v Sarsfields are tough to call. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2281 - 16/10/2022 17:38:27 2444218 Link 0 |
Fair point but would you rather the Galway County Champs sitting around waiting for the other Provinces to get done? I'd rather them stay sharp by playing matches.

Finished long ago? How could that be possible? Only way it could have happened is if club hurling and football fixtures were scheduled for the same weekend every weekend. The club championships started in early August, as early as was possible in the split season. The reduction to 16 senior clubs from next season will help but it would be impossible to have it finished any earlier given the present championship structure. Anyway it would work against our county champions if it did finish any earlier....certainly wouldnt help them to be without a match for 2 months while waiting until the provincial club championships finish to see who they play in the All Ireland semi final. Remember, the All Ireland club championship finals will be scheduled for December from next year or the year after so bad weather is assured in the future when the best club teams in the country are playing in the All Ireland semi finals and final.

Sarsfields will beat Portumna. Portumna beat the weakest team to qualify from Senior A. I saw Craughwell play 2 of their group games and they were just dreadful. Unfortunately I didnt find out until afterwards that Portumna were 11/8 outsiders to win yesterday! I agree, Turloughmore vs Loughrea is hard to call. The other 2 games should go along expected lines , St. Thomas's and Clarinbridge. PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 1968 - 16/10/2022 17:58:16 2444223 Link 1 |
You would get great odds on all 4 East Galway teams making the Semi Finals!!! Loughrea, Portumna, Cappataggle and Tommy Larkins. Cappy will be ready for Thomas'! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 16/10/2022 19:45:31 2444241 Link 1 |
