To be honest Marys have gone about their business again but you have to still look at the important transfers brought in, in the last few years which for me tarnishes any victory on Sunday. They are just the latest team to be going well with players transferring over and if you look through their Underage for the past few years, they have always been in low divisions.

Expect Shels to win the senior by 5 or 6 points. Split season suiting dual clubs well."
Would be an interesting exercise to see how many of the St. Mary's players transferred in there from other Wexford town clubs in recent years. Wonder if anybody has the means or know-how to do so? I don't mind admitting that I certainly don't!

I guess it might be to do with the tragic death in the area, funeral of which is on Saturday.

Of their starting 15 last week Spot Murphy has played for Joesphs and Sars and Warren Broaders played for Sars not sure after that, players have gone the other direction too, Chin played his underage with the Marys transferred to Sars when he was 19 or 20.

Maybe not a huge number into the Mary's, then. I honestly didn't know.

But still - and I realise this is just a personal opinion - have to say the transfer system in Wexford town has never really sat easy with me. Even Chin going in the opposite direction is an example...a good footballer who grows up playing with one club but then hops across to a different one when he's old enough to play at adult level, mainly just because his new club are senior and the one he's been with all along are down the grades. Doesn't happen anywhere else in the county that you can leave your first club and go to a neighbouring one just because that other club is playing at a different level.

I said it before in a thread on the old county forums, but I think if you were introducing gaelic football to Wexford town from scratch today, you wouldn't come with a system like the one that currently applies.

That's really not a big number. Hardly worth making a big deal of.

It probably evolved from when streets or little estates first put out teams that played eachother. I doubt it was an organised system as such.

Paddy Devereux could be a big loss, important cog in midfield.

Decent game between St James and Horeswood last night, St James after scoring an early penalty always held some sort of lead for almost the whole game varying from 1 to 6 points, Kevin O'Grady really stood up and was the best player on the pitch helping ensure St James safety.

Yeah, I realise. Much the same as how back in the day (say around 1920s/30s/40s), it was commonplace for townlands or neighbouring townlands in rural places to put teams together when there were enough men of playing age there. Townland beside me even won a county junior title at one stage. You'd hardly get a player out of it today!

Suppose the difference is there'd always have been a sufficient number of men in the town areas after the clubs were first formed, while the rural clubs would die off after a couple of years.

Am I right in saying the same fella over Horeswood, football legend and all that he is, is also one of the top guns in Good Counsel at the minute, who have stagnated in recent years?
