The original saying was ""Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligan's game played by gentlemen."

Ah,look, let's call a spade a spade and don't be shying away from the fact. It's all about being PC nowadays and the truth is generally regarded as too harsh or unpleasant for a lot to hear. The women's football and hurling can be decent enough but what's all this malarkey with wanting to box or be a mechanic. Sure isn't that just taking a job a man would be better suited to. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 15/07/2021 18:56:11 2360199 Link 2 |

In the context of vastly improved relations England would be most welcome for Athletics ,Horse racing, Rugby ,Golf etc. But they do have a lingering problem with how soccer attracts their low intelligent right wing old empire hooligans ,most likely bred from black and tan trash. Yes the soccer hooligans are awful but the " Athletics ,Horse racing, Rugby ,Golf" toffs from the posh schools during the occupation did and continue to do far more damage to Ireland than some hooligans. Its not from soccer stock that all them Landlords and anti Irish MPs came from down through the years I think maybe you are just letting your own sporting tastes get in the way Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1236 - 16/07/2021 11:28:28 2360347 Link 0 |
Not to be too preachy about it but today it's actually considered very racist to describe a black person as 'coloured".

I had noticed that as well but have found it happens a lot in Ireland but to be fair it's not deliberate. Many people in Ireland feel it's right to call people coloured when actually a black person feels it's racist. I believe it's a genuine mistake though.
