If Cavan Beat Dublin. What Shock Equates?

This is what I call being brought down to earth with a bang.
Having said that, out own mistakes are simply unforgivable.
A learning curve for our lads, and room for so much improvement.

Replying To ITSCHOLAR:  "Game over now big question from tonight is how do we progress and make football competitive from here.

Dare I say this but will we eventually see a semi professional league with county system taken away and franchises set up 2 in each province with 3 or 4 in Dublin least we may be able to get competitive games then players from all counties in a pool and split up by lots.

Intercounty system could remain as a feeder system for this.

I know some gaels would be disgusted by the idea but from watching this it's hard to see where we go."
Nonesense, this is a bit of a freak year with Kerry Tyrone and Donegal gone so early, if we hadn't played such rubbish in the Ulster final we'd have given Dublin a real test today. tomorrows match should be better.

I still think this is a special group of Dublin players; Mayo and Kerry have come close over the last couple of years and I reckon we'll see a good final this year so all hope isn't lost.

However there is a worry; what we don't want is football to turn into formula one where any half decent driver can sit in a mercedes car and win the world championship because the car is so far out in front of it's rivals. If the Dublin set up is or has become like the Mercedes car then the GAA has a serious problem because that set up would become impossible to catch, where inter county players of the same standard from elsewhere have a set up to propel them to heights impossible to achieve elsewhere.

We may be at that stage.

That's no learning curve, that's just showing you what level you are really at. Cavan were lucky to get this far in the freak year, Dublin aren't even out of 3rd gear.

I wouldnt be confident of that at all tbh. Had the dubs played ye and beat ye by 15 points almost no one would have been surprised.

What beat Donegal in the Ulster Final is they couldn't cope with the intensity, high press and aggression of Cavan. The attributes Cavan showed in the Ulster Final were copied and increased ten fold today by Dublin, there is no chance Donegal would have lived with that today. Cavan won that final comfortably, it wasn't a fluke which gives an indication how far Donegal would have been away today. The current Donegal set up won't win another All Ireland or get close to it, Cavan shows us that.

15 point gap in an All Ireland semi-final. Like watching paint dry.

Cavan weren't lucky in any of our games.

We wiped the floor with you lads in the final and you're bitter. Someone did the analysis and had we 15 on 15 for the entire game, it equated to us beating you lads by 12 points.

Cope harder.

Cavan played manfully. McKernan and Reilly scored great scores. Overall the kick outs worked. Ye have a lot of powerful men but the Dublin conditioning means they'll win more of the 50/50s. They make very few mistakes and it's really hard to get the ball off them.

But this was never a contest. Dublin could have had a few more goals and we're ambling through. Welcome to the Leinster championship Cavan. That's what we've been saying all week. Dublin are a professional outfit. On an equal footing Cavan held their own in Leinster.

Cavan won their title fair and square, so I wouldnt put it down to luck,,agree with you re Dublin though,,they won this without pushing themselves.

No you wouldn't have. Dublin played so within themselves it was unbelievable. Donegal would have suffered the same result I'm afraid.

You think Dublin would have beat us by 15 points? nonsense, we were caught on an off day in the Ulster final, lads could have had their minds on Dublin slightly and it was just one of those days, Cavan have been as lucky as black cats to get this far and they won't be back for another 20 something years, they are a div 3 / lower div 2 team, they got lucky in this freak of a year,
Donegal would have tested Dublin today, not saying we would have beaten them but we wouldn't be getting thrashed by 15 points by a team playing in 2nd or 3rd gear.

No need for the patronising. Although you seem to enjoy doing that on this forum.

Cavan beat Donegal with only 14 players for much of the game.

No, instead you would be getting thrashed by 15 points by a team in 1st or 2nd gear.
