By all accounts Limerick are and deserve to be favourite for this match. Galway look vulnerable in the middle, our backs need improving but we were better against Tip than against KK. we have an excellent forward line . One of Galways best assets is its experience in a tight Game. As the Great Bobby George use to say " tribles for show doubles for doe" in that regard who do my fellow posters think that if the teams are level with 5 minutes to Go will win the match ? heartbroken (Galway) - Posts: 370 - 24/11/2020 10:01:23 2314490 Link 1 |
It's arguable that we were better against Tipp than against Kilkenny. We made about 4 notable defensive mistakes against KK (including the 2 decisive goals) whereas we made a lot more mistakes against Tipp. We were better as an attacking threat I grant you but that's going to be hard to replicate against Limerick given the strengths they have all over the field.

I accept your analysis of our defensive display. What's your view as to whose bottle would hold up if we were level with 5 minutes to go ?

I would certainly give Galway a chance as they are the one team that can match Limerick physically. However as we saw against Kilkenny and Tipperary, Galway are at their best when working through the lines and pushing up on the short puck outs. However any kind of a return to the hail Mary high balls lumped down on top of the forwards which Galway seem to always return to at stages during every game, will see Limerick waltz home. gilly1910 (Galway) - Posts: 170 - 24/11/2020 13:01:37 2314626 Link 0 |
If we were level with 5 mins to go I'd give us every chance. It mightnt come down to bottle at all in that situation, just a lucky break or a referee decision. If you are thinking that Limerick would wobble against us near the end like they did in 2018 you can forget about that. They've been champions since. That kind of thing tends to happen to a team that are challengers and haven't won an All Ireland in a long time. But they're going into this as warm enough favourites and probably wouldnt be expecting us to be level with them towards the end so that, if it happens, could cause a few jitters alright but I dont think that it would.

It seems the Limerick posters have no interest in commenting on this match. For the record I was not focusing on limerick almost letting a lead slip in 2017. Sure you could say Galway panicked when they had KK well bet this year. My view is that Galway have built up a lot of experience from tight Finnish matches, that if they were level with 5 minutes to go against Limerick that they would be more mature for the want of a better phrase to go on to win the match . heartbroken (Galway) - Posts: 370 - 25/11/2020 20:44:38 2315423 Link 0 |
Limerick deserve to be favorites but I'm just sensing an upset in the works. Them 2 tough matches against KK and Tipp will help Galway a lot. Iron out some of the issues of the backs and goalie and all should be fine. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2100 - 25/11/2020 21:01:40 2315430 Link 0 |
I hope you are right hard to play 3 weeks in a row tho!

I'm trying to figure out how limerick are such raging favorites..limerick beat galway by a point in 2018,I know we were way up until match went to injury time..people saying tipp were limericks biggest obstacle,no I don,t think so..limerick havnt feared tipp in a long time.however if you ask any genuine limerick supporters they would definitely be worried about Galway.they are the one county who have hurlers and are every bit as physical as limerick..they are possibly the one team who might try and exploit our new full back line..I'm hoping I'm wrong and that maybe limerick can get through by three points..looking forward to a thriller.. I think both full back lines are susceptible and can be got at Buachaillbui (Clare) - Posts: 117 - 26/11/2020 08:42:32 2315511 Link 1 |
Not so sure about this,5 minute idea. Limerick, then a more inexperienced team, were trailing with 5 minutes to go against both Cork and Kilkenny in 18 and still came back to win. Also their subs dis ok against Waterford near the end.

Last year's semi final against Kilkenny goes against the curve in terms of Limericks play since 2018. skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 1054 - 26/11/2020 10:03:57 2315531 Link 0 |
I agree, if SON inside knowledge of Limerick hurling brings nothing more then Galway getting there match up right, well then we will have el classic. Truthfully I fancied Limerick but as the week progresses, I am becoming more optimistic. I don't think that 3 weeks playing championship will be a hindrance if fact quite the opposite momentum is with Galway. If as I expect Waterford take care of Kilkenny on Saturday that result will spur on Galway and put a bit of fear in Limerick.

How would Waterford beating Kilkenny put fear in Limerick !?!?

The notion that playing 3 games in a row mith would be exposed. Look Galway fear Limerick and if limerick don't fear Galway well only one winner on Sunday GALWAY.

We respect Galway.. Hugely. Great team with some great hurlers. Not too sure about fear though.. That's a different mindset altogether. But have to say that I think thats a bit of wishful thinking on your side. By this logic, if Waterford, who we beat in the munster final beat Kilkenny who have already beaten you, there's only going to be one winner on Sunday...not much sense there. Every match is different at this stage, Waterford who couldn't buy a win in Munster for 2 years are all of a sudden 70 minutes away from an all Ireland final.. That should give them plenty of motivation but won't have much impact on the result of our Match. I think they're a healthy respect between the two teams. I'm hoping missing 2 of our regular full back line won't be too costly and I expect us to win. skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 1054 - 26/11/2020 10:50:17 2315542 Link 0 |
Ya better read back on my posts, I never said that if Waterford beat Kilkenny then Galway will beat Limerick. As for Waterford they were in All Ireland final 3 years ago. Look Galway lost to KK a game that Galway were well on top, we did not respect Hogan and paid the price for it. It's a learning curve for our new backs and goalie. Limerick talking about injuries stop making excuses. Galway played ye in 2018 all Ireland with a lot of the team only 50% fit which ye exposed. Its limericks to loose ,I just want to see a competitive Galway and if were with ye with 5 minutes to go well Gaillimh ABU heartbroken (Galway) - Posts: 370 - 26/11/2020 11:09:50 2315549 Link 1 |
Let us all stop giving the excuses. We lost two of our full back line in during the match in 18 and this is never mentioned. I hope if we do lose we will not make excuses, as it only covers up the fact that we will not have been good enough.

May the best team win bud. And yes no excuses from anyone that they were robbed, as the simply fact is winner with be in All Ireland final

After the last day and the quick turnaround I initially tipp limerick but as the week has gone on I think Galway will win and they may never get a better chance. Galway need Canning to break even on Hannon and be more involved. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 26/11/2020 19:17:17 2315723 Link 2 |
