That I will agree with you on. It's not the amount of money (one of if not the highest per capita in the world ). It's how it is spent. 170 icu beds I think was a shock to everyone when it was announced that was all we had . For the billions that is spent on healthcare in this country it is in a bad state. A dr once told me that ire could have a world class healthcare for half the amount spent per year. But bureaucracy, contracts that can't be changed etc has it crippled. I'll give a example waiting on a appointment last year, needed the mri scan results to be sent to consultant, his secretary who sends them to the appointments section Went on holiday. The lady who was filling in for her couldn't send it to appointments dept as it was against union rules, she had to bypass the process and contact consultant directly so he could contact app department to send out a appointment letter. And all of this happened in the same hospital. How absolutely crazy is that?? Thankfully everything was ok but that could have been a life or death situation. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 19/08/2020 13:25:59 2288242 Link 2 |
This is really depressing...the reality is it looks like 2021 is going to be the same story. I think the GAA are right to ask for evidence specific to our games. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 19/08/2020 13:35:47 2288245 Link 9 |
Rural Ireland is being punished - Did I miss something or does this rule not apply to the entire country? Do you think yesterdays announcement where spectators was reduced by less than 100 people is going to make any difference to the championship going ahead? Your right Foolsgold 4 or 5 white vans passed me this morning with 2/3 men in front wearing high viz jackets probably on their way to a match, I saw 10 workers outside a hospital congregating having a fag probably on their way to a match and I passed a convenience shop with men getting their breakfast rolls having a chat outside probably going to a match aswell. If we stop 100 fans going to a game in the fresh air the virus will disappear-yesterdays list of actions are sure to stop the spread of Covid.

People in big towns and cities can go for a pint if they pay €9...plus there are a lot more social activities to keep the mind active. Your can't do that in rural Ireland which is effectively shut. You can't go for a pint or watch the local club which is the hub of the local community. Parents can't watch underage teams, you may have a game 100km away, no carpooling, so a convoy of cars travels an hour, drops kids off and what...head up town for a pizza and pick up little Johnny after the game....it's ridiculous. Inter county championships are not going to happen now, forget about it. I just hope we get the club championships completed. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 19/08/2020 14:26:17 2288257 Link 5 |
Well go and report them if you want, instead of trying to be smart. Look at the games on TG4, match in Down last week with the crowd packed together like sardines People were advised to wear face masks to games and hardly anyone does FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2752 - 19/08/2020 14:26:56 2288258 Link 2 |
It is looking like parents/guardians will be allowed to attend underage games. Did you believe up until yesterday that inter county games would go ahead ? Mfs (Mayo) - Posts: 251 - 19/08/2020 14:49:08 2288260 Link 2 |
And she told you it was the union's rules it was against. Very odd to be so honest about it

No I didn't...I'd given hope hope a few weeks ago when cases started climbing that inter county would go ahead. We are re opening school and heading for flue season so it was always a non runner in my own opinion

Can someone clear up something for me? 2 Dublin Senior Club games were televised last Saturday, can't remember who played. ( Not too many other counties games shown but that is for another day). It appeared that the games were fixed one after another, 5:30 and 7:30. Did the stewards chase the 200 out after the first game and then allow in the next 200, I don't think so. I could see the players from the first game sitting watching the second game and yes there were more than 200 in attendance. In the county I live in if there games played at the same venue they are scheduled 3-4 hours apart. This double header is one of the main reasons for the new measures!!

Catch yourself on, you ask the question and then answer it yourself!

Where is the evidence that people have been infected by going to matches. Stopping people going to matches for 1 hour maybe 2 hours a week is going to have a minimal, insignificant effect on the numbers when people are ignoring the advice for the rest of the week true or false?

I think that's a reasonable question to ask, can anyone who was there ans it without everyone turning it into a anti dublin rant. I was at he game in newry on fri night that was covered by Tg4 and yes sanitiser when you went in but no mention of masks with 90% of people not wearing them. Problem they had was within stand only 2 sections open so everyone was on top of each other ( would say for tv camera as facing stand ) they should have had whole stand open with x numbers permitted in each section. Down have doubleheaders but they our 3/4 hours apart. Clubs up here have been v good with the rules in general it would be a shame if supporters are not permitted into grounds now. The NPhet team must have some evidence. They have the details. What happens in the rest of the week is peoples responsibility. Construction workers etc have all being given guidelines on how to work with the viru, and advised not to travel in groups.

Well HSE said today these are Govt decisions, these experts offer advise that is all. Govt cherry picks and what you get is an inconsistent message.

A few things I find disturbing. One, the deaths announced each day happened up 36 days earlier depending when death cert was issued. Currently there is a 28 day wait. Secondly looking at the report into nursery homes, 70% of those who got Covid in nursing homes survived. I personally think we are worrying ourselves needlessly. Be cautious, treat virus with respect, vast majority of those who get do not even know they have it. It is so impirtant for govt to manage this with proper faster testing, tracing and isolating. Rural Ireland will be decimated at this rate of economic decline. Sport is vital for mental health. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4892 - 19/08/2020 20:02:05 2288313 Link 3 |
You said it there "peoples responsibility" and that is what we all need to do. People are annoyed that sports fans have been targeted when everywhere you look around people are just ignoring the advice and acting as if there was no Covid. If GAA fans and the GAA itself thought keeping people away from ground was the right thing then there would have been no uproar.
