Replying To TheFlaker:  "Nonsense. If they claim they are doing it to stop the spread then you can't cherry pick. Is Mass a business as well? Or can you explain that ? Amongst other things."
No comparison, iv seen crowds at matches mingling with zero social distancing, I've seen groups booking tables in pubs after matches, I haven't seen this at mass

I predicted on here in the last few weeks that the govt and Hphet will not be a friend to the GAA. And so it has come to pass. GAA needs to finish the National leagues, behind closed doors if need be. The Govt is allowing interpro rugby next saturday. How many will be at it. Far more than 200 I would guess. Also far more physical contact in Rugby eg scrum, than GAA. But as I keep telling you Irish media and Govt FFg is not friendly to Gaelic games.

So they wont tackle meat factories or protect borders but maybe if they stop 200 people watching a kick about in a field the public will think the government are doing something

Replying To Meathball:  "This is a total over reaction in relation to outdoor sports, the majority of GAA club pitches have grass banks where at least the family members of players could sit in their cars watching games. Take away one of the few joys in life for parents to see their kids playing football without any evidence that it was contributing to the spread. People with just lose faith in the messengers.
In any case there is not one shred of evidence that anyone has caught COVID at a GAA match or training outdoors. Charlie Bird was right this morning stating the government are deliberately attacking all the wrong areas to tackle this epidemic in order to cause distractIon from the lack of leadership and proper policy to tackle Covid.
So it's ok to leave all the pubs open and it's dangerous to have people outside at a GAA match.
They make it as they go along."
Totally agree. I think if its not Safe for 200 how can it be Safe for the players in a championship match. At Under 9,11 and 13 matches are they going to stop the parents at the gate and if not who is going to Police it. Its farcical we have an incompetent government incapable or unwilling to enforce its own laws and they then put the blame on sports.

That surely is curtains for GAA sport for 2020. Latest restrictions are the end now, best to call it a day. So much for "smart lockdowns", "Test, trace and isolate". Irelands economy and society is going to hell in a handcart. Country is being run by doctors not politicians, you cant fight a virus without a vaccine you have to devise a methology to live with it. But definitely there is no appetite for county players to play.

Look Toddy your talking nonsense, your 19 times more likely to get Covid indoors than outside-no comparison in other words. You might not understand but a lot of people enjoy hobbies and pastimes to make their lives more enjoyable and worthwhile. This lockout of sporting crowds will have little or no effect on the overall fight against Covid, if sporting crowds were the issue I would 110% support this but it isn't.Focus on nursing homes, lowly paid close contact job's , pubs, Direct Provision and house parties and that's where the problems are.

Ah sure it least you're able to go down the local pub serving pizza and have a few pints safely while the matches are on......

I play hurling, football and soccer so I am familiar with hobbies!! Its part of the fight against covid, I also work in the front line and it is getting scary once more, its not causing all the covid cases but no doubt it is contributing!! And its the before and after games and travelling to and from them that is the issue!!

Spare us your drivel."
Sorry but incorrect. We are among the higher spenders of health per capita in the EU:

Whoa can't let this go. We actually have one of the highest funded heath services in Europe if not the world. Most of our taxes goes on health. That's a sf spin. We just keep throwing money at it. Without actually fixing the problems (which is mostly down to unions) as it would remove so much dead wood from the hse. For the amount of money we spend on hse we should have the number 1 health services in the world. This is not about money.

Unfortunately from the beginning the Government has been making a fool of themselves making poor decisions and not making decisions in the beginning when control was necessary. The are now hiding behind a doctor's advice. Crowds at GAA games cannot be a problem as no crowds exist. The risk in going into a shop is many times higher than going to an outdoor football match. Country pubs are not a problem either as the are all closed and these same pubs are very good at social distancing considering the experience they have gained over the past 25 years!!

Whatever about my personal views on Covid 19. I dont think the statement from the GAA asking for "empirical evidence" will go down well with the public and GAA membership. Here comes another climb down and apology.

Yes, underfunded was an entirely inaccurate word to use, what would have been more appropriate would have been to say that it is inadequately funded for its purpose.

Even though we spend a high percentage of our public expenditure on health, we are still alarmingly short of the EU average in terms of ICU capacity and general capacity in our hospitals.

Correct. We are the proud owners of the worlds most expensive hospital . A hospital that is not fit for purpose and is nowhere near complete. It's also not easily accessible to most of the country and there will be parking issues if it ever opens. There was another more viable site for the hospital that would have avoided these problems (which were pointed out before work began. Our health system isnt underfunded money is being spent on **** we dont need. Less admin staff who do nothing and more wages for our nurses

The only rugby games for now going ahead are professional games where players are tested regularly and have the financial wherewithal to do that.
Interpro rugby can go ahead as its a professional sport and not amateur like the GAA with players having day jobs all over the country.
There wont be far more than 200 at the rugby next weekend. World Rugby think only 167 people are needed. link
If players are tested regularly like they have been in pro rugby then close contact and scrums isnt an issue now is it?

The GAA are right to call out Glynn on this and I believe their new found ability to question this comes from having Prof Mary Horgan in their corner. Looking at the data it would tell you that despite the noise around the big clusters coming from meat plants, the majority of the clusters are coming from households close contacts. However translating that data into attendance at GAA games in tenuous and what they are asking for is proof that people who have passed it on by attending GAA games and made people close contacts as a result. However I have watched quiet a few games on the TV and streamed online and looking at them and the crowd behavior you would also say they could pass it on. Don't get caught up in this thing about it been outdoors as if you are sitting next to/behind in front of someone shouting and roaring at a game you are a close contact. So while this makes no sense when you compare the logic to a wedding or other indoor events or pubs where regardless of the seating arrangements you will end up as a close contact, the GAA also needs to look at its own very public displays of adherence to its own guidelines - sometimes the GAA makes itself an easy target and this is one of those times.
