Mayo V Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'd say Kerry 2-13 Mayo 1-10. Of course this is only my opinion and it's not because I don't think Mayo are capable. I think the Kerry defence will be better than most predict here. Kerry are five weeks better prepared physically and mentally than against cork and I believe their management targeted this game from the start of the championship. The weakness of Kerry is hard running direct through the middle. I think they would have worked on this to at least reduce by 50%. Alternatively, with Kerry's forwards, they can afford to play more defensive players whilst maintaining an affective attacking threat. In short, I think Kerry will get their scores easier than Mayo and in the end that will translate to a Kerry victory. Only an opinion, and I'll be delighted for my Mayo wife if I'm wrong.

Replying To Sindar:  "I think Mayo will have enough here. They won't find it difficult to get scores but the'll have to tighten up themselves defensively. Keith Higgins has been loose but somehow he manages to adapt to what's needed for the game in hand. It's unfortunate for them that their home game is against Meath as they'd be expected to win that even in Navan. I fancy Mayo and Donegal to progress from this group. This Rossie will be supporting his neighbours!"
Hope your right as I can see Kerry beating us. I feel it will all come down to our last game v donegal in. Sold out MacHale Park.

Best of luck to da rossies today v Tyrone. Up da west

Replying To Sindar:  "When is the last time Kerry had massive support making the trip to Croke Park other than for an AI Final or against the Dubs? I've been in Croke Park for semis before with Kerry playing and green and gold jerseys in the stands were few and far between. 500 is a good estimate either way"
I'd say the last time we had a big support in crokepark outside of a finalwould have been the semifinals against Dublin 2016 and Mayo 2017 first game, only about 500 turned up for the replay in that game.

Replying To tirawleybaron:  "Mayo with half a team of old lads, limping into Fortress Killarney against a team of fast skillful young lads.

Kerry will run the legs off them. We are praying for a drop of rain to keep us in the game."
It does look like we're going for pure speed and all out attack by the team that's been named so this should be a cracker for the neutral, it might not be great for us fans though.

The forecast says it's going to be 26 degrees tomorrow and no rain so conditions will be muggy old shite I'd say.

cant wait for the super 8s to begin.
Last year felt like a false start.
Record attendance outside of HQ for the super 8s last year was a paltry 18,000 ..

Only Mayo could have had Kerry people out scrambling for tickets as early as a Monday morning for a game in Killarney.

All the pressure is on Kerry in this game.... Mayo can afford to lose because one would expect them to beat Meath in Croke Park and beat Donegal in Castlebar but a Kerry defeat and then play a very good Donegal team in Croke Park and then a sticky stubborn Meath team in Navan could be a big ask.
Kerry have been unconvincing against poor Clare and Cork teams and there is alot at stake in this Mayo game, so on that note I expect Kerry to rise to the occasion and to win this match in front of their home fans.

Poor Clare and Cork teams? 1 of them is in the Super 8's, unlike Galway, the other can feel very unlucky not to be there.

It's easy play well against bad teams as Cork did v Laois....and Clare v Meath again two middle of the road teams was always a 50/50 game neither team going anywhere.

Tricky enough affair this one for Kerry and Mayo bring their game it could be a long aul evening. Kerry are average enough when you put it upon to them and I have feeling Mayo will play rough house and bully them if let.
They only problem for Mayo is if the ref is wise to some of their tactics and with it being in Killarney he'll hear all about how dreadful it is for these poor Kerry lads.
Mayo to win if they can score 2 goals.

What if they score 2 goals and zero points?

Why would you expect Mayo to beat Donegal?. That's a 50/50 game in my opinion.
I do agree about Kerry needing to win more because i think Donegal will beat them.

Likewise I'd expect Donegal to beat Kerry too. I think Castlebar venue would help Mayo sneek it v Donegal

Keep changing my mind on whether I think we're going to win or not. Can't wait for it. so many questions being asked of young players for both sides today

Rotten colour combinations on both teams. What's wrong with Kerry wearing all blue and Mayo all white as per their provincial colours. They could still have their own county colour trims.
