Meath V Laois

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

A tricky enough match for the Royals. In the last five Championship matches against Laois, they have only won once, drew once and lost three times.

Laois are our bogey team great meath teams have slipped up against laois over the years, meath have always been favourites over laois in all but one game in 2004 if memory serves me right, Laois bet us well that day.

Ticket bought and train booked, all we need now is the weather!

Should be a good game.

Brody's runs not as evident against Westmeath a couple of weeks ago, maybe lessons learned from the league final.

Couple of key players went off injured the last day, and O'Flynn who was wing back is now in the middle of his leaving cert, so team selection will be interesting.

I'm expecting a tight game, Meath 2 point favourites which is about right, so we're hoping for an upset!

Can't see Meath slipping up at this junction. However Laois have to be respected. Meath are perhaps a year further on in their development, so for that I'll go for Meath by 2.
Hon the royal"
Why is this lady/gent so red thumbed? I know he she is an avid Meath supporter and occasionally gets carried away, but I don't find he or she offensive.

Fully believe Laois will be 4-6 points better than Meath. Meath played an extremely poor Carlow team and struggled for long periods of the game. This Laois team are on the up. Leinster finalists last year and two promotions in a row in the league. I also believe Laois have better forwards. It will be a Dublin/Laois Final again.

I completely forgot laois were in the final last year. What did Dublin beat them by?

They beat us by 18 points. Do you think that Meath would have done much better?
They weren't even at their best until the 30th minute - Perhaps if they were playing Meath they would have REALLY turned it on, and walloped ye by 25+

Laoisvillian, our friend and Hoganstand colleague royaldunne doesn't have a gender identity issue!
He's solidly male! A bit of a male bull some would say. Or Maybe I'm getting mixed up with Ollie's watering hole The Bull in Drogheda.

Meath should beat Laois this weekend, just going by the level both are operating at over the past couple of seasons.
However Laois are also on an upward trajectory & are experienced in playing in Croker, they will enjoy testing themselves against Meath & I can't see fitness being a problem.
I'm going for a tight Laois win and another crack at the Dubs!

Thanks for that. I am a he. A older one at that too.
Ahh sure if I wasn't getting the thumbs down I'd be doing something wrong.
See you on Sunday, looking forward to a good game and obviously a Meath win.

Was at the Laois v Carlow game in the League. Wasn't much between them that day. Carlow loaded it over the Laois midfield until Quigley came on. Anyway really enjoyed the match as it was my first game on my return from Oz

That the one in Dr Cullen or the final in Croker Crikey?

Neither a game for the neutral!

Laois were a bit naive I thought for the match in Dr Cullen last year, but had Carlow well sussed by the league final, being patient and holding shape until scoring opportunity came.

A lot will be needed from Laois midfield at the weekend to feed our inside forwards, I worry about our half forwrd line.

Ironically Lilywhite the Bull would be near the Meath border and Royaldunnes club the Cilles would be in that territory.

Laois will need to improve a sight from the last day against Westmeath to have a chance I reckon. That was an awful game of football. If O'Carroll can be kept quiet it's half the battle for Meath. Will be interesting to see if Laois have that improvement in them.

Teams named. No surprise in seeing James McEntee return. Huge surprise in seeing harnan not keep his place, however I think there could be one or two changes come throw in.

Meath played a decimated Carlow side ... 6 of our players out , Brendan Murphy, Sean Murphy red, Chief scorer Paul Broderick injured after 7 min Gannon injured, St Ledger and Eoghan Ruth blacks.

I would predict an 8 point win for Laois.

I never said anything about the last few years, neither did i mention Meath. Your making things up as your going along there fella.

Laois missing Timmons and Begley at the back.

Meath will win by 6
