Dublin Getting 2 Home Games In The Super 8s. Fair Or Unfair?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Of course it's unfair.

But that isn't Dublin's fault, none of it is their doing. They would be more than happy for it not to be the case.

It's the fault of the same suits who tried to take home advantage off Kildare, the same suits who operate a policy of threaten and promise to smaller counties who dare ask for fairness, it's the fault if the same suits who are so far disconnected from what made the gaa great that they may as well be over another sport.

Why are you talking about Super 8s? They get all important games at home, Always have done.! Showed today how important home venue was in Newbridge. I think if Mayo got to play their All Irelands in Castlebar there would have been different outcomes as well. As far as I am concerned it is all a Farce and nobody mentioned it until Kildare threw a tantrum, fair play to them. But nothing Changes. Dubs at home until they collect the cup again.

Replying To Long.Dub.Glic:  "In the Super 8s each team plays 1 game in Croke Park, 1 at game at home and 1 game away.

The first set of Super 8 games (the provincial winners against each other) are all being played in Croke Park.

In my opinion, Dublins home game should be in Parnell Park or a venue they nominate (that's not Croke Park) and their away game should be in the home venue of their opponent. The GAA switched Dublins home games to Croke Park not Dublin County Board.

I'm sure Kerry and Galway would be more suitable for Thurles or Limerick but as it has been deemed a 'Croke Park' fixture so that's where they'll play.

They do need to tweak it a bit more and I'm sure Dublin will be more than happy to get a run outside of HQ"
You are playing all your important games at home! Everybody knows it. If Mayo had yee down in Castlebar last few years you would have no All Irelands. Home Venue worth at least, 3...4 Points. Enjoy your All Irelands, I don't recognize them at all.

Kevin McStay & Cian O'Neill have changed the tone of the conversation & wheras decisions from Croke Park used to be accepted, albeit with some grumbling, people now see that manifestly unfair decisions do not have to be swallowed without salt. Stand up to them & like all bullies they fall apart.

Up with this we will not put anymore."
When will the organize a neutral venue for All Ireland and semi Finals??? A Farce at the moment. Croke Park worth 3...4 Points to the Dubs in every game.

Replying To JayP:  "Look, if Donegal were in the opposite group to Dublin you wouldnt care. One home, one away and one in Croke Park. David Brady on Off the Ball said he doesnt care if Dublin play 2 games in Croke Park. They either play in Parnell or pick a venue of their choice. Hes said its a no brainer to play in Croke Park. And although fairness is great and all that if people want to host home games in qualifiers or Super 8's a lot of grounds will need upgrades. That wont happen unless the GAA make money. Its a double edged sword. You want an improved Pairc Tailteann or Newbridge, the GAA need cash. Thats their reason for the Super 8's prov winners playing in Croke Park. Its a stadium filler. Look more modern stadia is needed."
All very well jayp if the money being generated from all these games in Croke Park was being spread round evenly. But we all know that most of the money generated goes to one county.

If there is a bit of a fall off in income most of us won't notice it very much.

yes, it 100% is unfair,

Dublin are at an advantage in the Super 8s as they have 2 home matches and one away match,

Donegal have 1 home and 2 away, this already puts Dublin at an advantage as they are far more familiar with Croke Park and they will totally outnumber Donegal.

And before anyone says Dublin aren't in their home ground and that they are in the national ground, well Dublin have played 17 out of every 18 Championsip match there since 2009 (51 out of 54) and that's not even including roughly half of the league matches, O'Byrne cup etc.

And I'm not blaming Dublin for any of this, I'm going to reiterate what others have already said in that I'm sure the majority of the dubs would like to travel away more often.

It was Kevin Heffernan who said that Croke Park was worth 3-4 points a game to Dublin. All you have to do is look at the results of the last few AI finals to see what JMcG was talking about.

It wasn't a pop at Dublin he was saying that there comes a point when someone has to say stop to what is going on in CP where nothing matters more that making money.

In this we should all be in agreement.

i don't exactly agree with that, the final in particular should be played in the national stadium regardless who's in it. bit like saying that russia shouldn't have their world cup games at home.

More than likely you are correct, no matter where Dublin play Donegal they will win the game. But that misses the point, the game between the Leinster and Ulster champions is supposed to be at a neutral venue. Surely that is not expecting too much. I don't blame Dublin at all and wouldn't agree with JMcG that it tarnishes them in any way, they are playing the game where the GAA have fixed it. To be fair to most Dublin supporters they have no problem to play outside Croker.

Look the argument that Dublin "will outnumber Donegal" in CP so it is an advantage is nonsense. Dublin will outnumber Donegal anywhere due to their fan base. How many times has Michael Murphy played in CP and how many games does he need under his belt before he is "familiar" with CP? Heffo's point back then was the noise that Dublin fans brought in the 70s and how compact CP was back then with Dublin fans crouched on the sidelines. It was intimidating for some other counties yet others relished it. Mayo fans outnumbered Dublin at the last AI final and their plays played their counltless times before. I wouldn't overstate the "home" advantage. I actually think the Dublin players would up their game playing out of CP. How many times have they been beaten outside of CP in the league in the last 6/7 years anyway? I actually think this game should be in Semple anyway, a great chance for the players to shake off the shackles of CP.

Christ joxer, Croke Park is a full day's camel ride for some of us as it is, now you want to bring us to Thurles??

We have no handy train services & from Letterkenny its a nine hour return trip. Clones is the obvious choice.

so take Donegal as far away as possible for a neutral game, it would at least a 12 hour road trip for most fans, terrible idea lol

Id prefer PUC to be honest and i think if its neutral, it shouldnt be in eithers province. PUC would also suit the GAA financially in terms of what it can hold. Put it on the Saturday night so everyone can travel and get home.

Either that or Castlebar but that wouldn't get my pulse racing like PUC.

so say if it was on a Saturday night at 7 you wouldn't see Donegal fans home until 2/3 unless they stay down overnight, far from ideal either way. castlebar would make more sense to me
