Dublin Getting 2 Home Games In The Super 8s. Fair Or Unfair?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Over the years the Gaa has changed from being a community based organisation to a money making organisation. Fair play is gone look what kildare had to go through just to get what the draw siad they should get. The sky super 8s no different .

All Ireland champions and croke park residents getting 2 home games would have the tin hat brigade screaming conspiracy .

And the only answer the people are given is the need for money it gets spread around all the counties. I love the gaa and at grass routes it remarkable but go to county level and its sickening the imbalance and pandering done to keep the big teams happy.

Dublin should have to play in a neutral venue the same as all the other teams in the sky super 8s.

More to life that money. There's a reason why people call it the grab all association.

Wondering which side of the fair or unfair fence you are on. :D

For the love of God, can everyone concentrate on the actual football championship instead of constantly moaning about venues and season ticket holders

It is what it is for 2018 but I'd say there will be a change for 2019.

Kevin McStay & Cian O'Neill have changed the tone of the conversation & wheras decisions from Croke Park used to be accepted, albeit with some grumbling, people now see that manifestly unfair decisions do not have to be swallowed without salt. Stand up to them & like all bullies they fall apart.

Up with this we will not put anymore.

Of course it's not fair, but they've been getting a leg up from the association for as long as I can remember. Why would that change now.

It's unfair, simple as. I usually shake my head when people are constantly whining about Dublin have but i think getting an extra game in Croker is crazy, even by the GAA's standards. I wouldn't have a problem myself if the Donegal game in a couple of weeks was taken out of Croker and have it played in somewhere like Clones or Thurles, it would be a brilliant occasion. I don't think the decision should come down to Dublin, McGuiness was talking utter rubbish the other day saying it could tarnish their legacy if they didn't try move the game out of Croker, the GAA should make the call. If the game gets moved to a proper neutral venue, i think it will be brilliant, if not, so be it, but the weeks after we'll just be getting constant tiresome whinging about it, especially if the Dubs win well

I think Dublin should be the same as everyone else, Croke Park game, an away game and a home game at Parnell Park

The venue issue is really overshadowing the championship this year. And God help us if for one reason or another Dublin's two home matches become the deciding factor in who progresses from their group (you know what I mean, a controversial 1 point win in what was officially their "neutral" game). We'll never hear the end of it.

First year of a new system, you're always going to get some teething issues; but avoiding a situation where one team receives a significant advantage over the other teams seems like a no-brainer.

HQ need to take a hard look at themselves and remember what kind of organization the GAA is supposed to be.

Dublin have played nearly every single game in the league, or championship, for the last few years in Croker. Anyone who considers it as a neutral venue for any Dublin game is having a laugh. Parnell park is more of a neutral venue than Croker is!

So you'd like to play in Parnel Park? very good lets dumb down the competition, Na Fianna have a spare pitch we could play on that.

Dublin could play donegal in croke park, phoenix park or stephens green park it's not gonna make a difference, getting the excuses in early, this was said last year that Dublin would play twice in croker, you will get 60,000 v donegal

Yeah it's unfair

But it's up to the GAA to sort it

Dubs away record is outstanding - played in 7 of the last 8 NFL Div 1 finals

.. and if it is switched it'll be on a neutral pitch

Bring it on :)

Over to you GAA but hey it wouldn't be the first time we've been used to line the pockets of the GAA! Nothing new there..

I'd quite fancy a trip to Tipp.

Up the Dubs

In the Super 8s each team plays 1 game in Croke Park, 1 at game at home and 1 game away.

The first set of Super 8 games (the provincial winners against each other) are all being played in Croke Park.

In my opinion, Dublins home game should be in Parnell Park or a venue they nominate (that's not Croke Park) and their away game should be in the home venue of their opponent. The GAA switched Dublins home games to Croke Park not Dublin County Board.

I'm sure Kerry and Galway would be more suitable for Thurles or Limerick but as it has been deemed a 'Croke Park' fixture so that's where they'll play.

They do need to tweak it a bit more and I'm sure Dublin will be more than happy to get a run outside of HQ

Dublin Donegal should be in Clones but will be in Croker as every other game in round 1 is at a neutral venue, but will be in Croke Park.

You still don't get it.

I don't care if 160,000 were willing to go to Croke Park, this is about the integrity of the competition. Every team should be playing in the Super 8's on a level playing field, one home, one away & one neutral or an open draw to decide who gets the extra home game.

What is wrong is to decide that one team gets an advantage over every other team & as many others have said this is not an anti Dublin thing it is about HQ putting gate receipts ahead of everything else, fairness included.

Why did McGuinness turn it into a Dublin thing?

The chap trying to remain relevant by having a daft pop at Dublin's legacy?

Look, if Donegal were in the opposite group to Dublin you wouldnt care. One home, one away and one in Croke Park. David Brady on Off the Ball said he doesnt care if Dublin play 2 games in Croke Park. They either play in Parnell or pick a venue of their choice. Hes said its a no brainer to play in Croke Park. And although fairness is great and all that if people want to host home games in qualifiers or Super 8's a lot of grounds will need upgrades. That wont happen unless the GAA make money. Its a double edged sword. You want an improved Pairc Tailteann or Newbridge, the GAA need cash. Thats their reason for the Super 8's prov winners playing in Croke Park. Its a stadium filler. Look more modern stadia is needed.
