Paul Cassidy says there's a possibility that a team could finish on 12 points in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League and still not get promoted.
With two rounds to go, Derry, Meath and Cork are all tied on eight points, but Derry's hammering of Cork in the last round leaves them in a strong position with a huge scoring difference of +46.
"If we beat Louth, it's in our own hands but there could also be a team staying in Division 2 with 12 points, if Cork and Meath win their last two games as well," the Oak Leaf wing forward said at a media event at The Palace Demesne in Armagh this week.
After failing to win a game in 2025, Derry have regained winning ways this season under Ciaran Meenagh.
“The past 12 to 18 months we had a rough two years and not winning a game or anything, but those things happen,” the Bellaghy man continued.
“Ciarán (Meenagh) and Chrissie (McKaigue) came in this year and sort of turned the corner a bit and it was down to the players take responsibility for it as well.
“I know we were off to a bad start against Meath this, but we sort of pulled it around with four wins on the bounce.
“You see all the same players are still there so I'd probably say there's a good togetherness.
“Even when we were losing, we still wanted to be there. We still wanted to train. That's probably the main reason why you're getting back to winning ways at the moment.”
