St Eunan's GAA club in Letterkenny has expressed delight at confirmation that it will host next month's Ulster SFC quarter-final between Donegal and Down.
Jim McGuinness had held out hope that recent improvement works at MacCumhaill Park would be completed in time for Donegal to begin their bid for a three-in-a-row of Ulster SFC titles in Ballybofey, but the game will take place in O'Donnell Park - which has a much smaller capacity - as planned on Sunday, April 26. It will be the first time in 75 years for Letterkenny to see Ulster SFC action.
"Everyone at St Eunan’s GAA Club is delighted that Donegal GAA has confirmed O’Donnell Park as the venue for the Ulster Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final between Donegal GAA and Down GAA," a club statement read.
"It is a great honour for our club to host what will be the first championship match at O’Donnell Park in 75 years. The occasion brings immense pride to our members, volunteers, players and supporters.
"On days like this we remember the great club figures who helped lay the foundations for the facilities we are so proud of today — people like Charlie Harvey, Barney McMonagle, Bobby Murray and Connie Maguire, along with many others whose dedication developed O’Donnell Park into the fantastic grounds we have today.
"We would also like to thank the Donegal County Board and Ulster GAA for their support. We look forward to continuing to work with them in the future to further increase capacity and enhance facilities for the comfort of our supporters. We also look forward to continuing our role as the county’s secondary ground, as voted by the clubs in 2010.
"We look forward to welcoming supporters from across the province to Letterkenny for what promises to be a memorable Ulster Championship clash."
