Mayo’s lack of experience in lifting the Sam Maguire Cup was picked up on by Eamonn Fitzmaurice and Paul Flynn after their All-Ireland SFC final victory over Kerry.

Speaking on The Sunday Game, both pundits jokingly pointed out how handling the famous silverware didn’t come naturally, which is to be expected after 75 years of waiting.

“They're a young team and now they're going to see what winning is like. I was looking at them today, even a small thing like lifting the Sam Maguire. They kind of weren't sure how to go at it,” former Kerry All-Ireland winning manager and player Fitzmaurice said.

“They were looking at it. If you watch back the video there is a load of different efforts, there are fellas catching it by the bottom, by the sides, and everything else.”

Flynn, who won six All-Irelands with Dublin, added: “They were underneath the Hill and chucking it in the air. That was inexperience! Where was the Red Cross ambulance? That was going to knock someone out if it hit them in the head!”
