Whing, whing, whing. Good teams are supposed to win the biggest prizes. Every team now puts in a hell of a lot more effort than they did 30 years ago, so the good teams certainly deserve their victories. There will be more 1 off's like Cork and Donegal in the future, and they will deserve that victory as much as anyone, too. I can't for the life of me understand why people give out so much about why the best teams keep winning?? Like say that out loud and realise how mad it is? But I will say that the last 20 years have been pretty grim reading for the competitiveness of the competition, 3 teams have passed it between eachother and have only been briefly punctuated by one off's in Cork and Donegal - who are both as close as ourselves to winning it again.. There needs to be work done in the larger counties though - clearly the county boards of Donegal, Cork, Kildare, Offlay, Meath and Westmeath are failing on a continuous basis given their massive populations and catchment areas. That a team like Louth can come along after a few years with good men in place and a good manager installed speaks volumes to the failings of others. The templates are there - Kerry, Dublin and Tyrone! Even look at Limerick hurling - completely in the wilderness until JP McManus's money got involved. Now money and plenty of it surely helps but its not like they're out buying players. The money put the infastructers in place alright but it still took the work of a lot of good people to get them to where they are now. HQ should be auditing the county boards of each county to see what structures are in place and offer them outside expertise to help improve the whole thing. You only have to look at the nonsense going on in Down and Donegal to see that some county boards are more focused on infighting and conniving than improving playing structures for the youth to help the county teams compete. A strong leadership from HQ coming down and stamping out all of this carry on would only inevitably improve the premier competitions and leave us with a spectacle worth watching! When you take a look around the country though, it does leave you fairly glad that the good people finally took over the running of things in Monaghan after our decades in the wilderness. Our competing in and around the top table for a sustained 20 years in a credit to the work thats being done. Realistically given our population in comparison to others in the lower divisions we have no business putting it up to the likes of Tyrone, Armagh, Galway etc. While it still remains a pipe dream for us to maybe one day be in an All-Ireland final again, at least we're not totally crazy for dreaming!" All Ireland final AGAIN?? Steady on there. In fairness, you make some very good points. We on your border have watched your efforts of late with a bit of envy. Though, I feel that more emphasis on the Ulster champ would have wielded you, over the last few decades, even more success. I would note that Offaly and Westmeath have populations not much in excess of your own. Louth, on the other hand, have the population to sustain a better outfit than their last few decades shows. Great win for the hurlers, much deserved alot of the personal on that time have given some service to the jersey. A real enjoyable game. It was hard to believe since the lower competitions were brought it, monaghan hadn't even got to a final at HQ. Hurling definitely rising in so called weaker counties, Kildare and sligo two examples. Hopefully we can build on this in Nicky Rackard next season. Hurling definitely needs to be promoted more in the county especially in the North West, a team could be definitely be formed. Firstly, well done to the Hurlers, a great win & very impressed by the standard. A very good game in Clones yesterday, some great long range points by both teams, Jack was superb, also Conor McCarthy , Michael Bannigan & Karl O'C were brill. Some great fielding , especially one outrageous catch by K Gallagher. Onwards & upwards (hopefully)! What was the attendance... 4,000ish? A very good win. Clare came out firing on all cyclinders as they had to, but Monaghan didn't panic and played themselves into the game and eventually take the lead but they couldn't shake Clare off until the goal at the end. Up to that point there was always the worry that Clare could get another goal and sneak it. And there were a few close calls along the way. Point scoing from both teams was unbelievable in very tough conditions. McCarron and McCarthy were probably the standout performances but there were a lot of other good ones too. Mohan around the middle of the park gives Monaghan something else. Teams aren't going to dominate midifeld when he's there. Gallagher too adds a lot around in the midfield area. It was an entertaining game. McCarron putting in the type of performance that only he can. His 8 points from play were all brilliant kicks. If it wasn't for him we may not have been in the position to go past them in the final 10 minutes. In truth I was hoping it wouldn't be as close as it was - they had a few goal chances near the end too. I thought their forwards gave us a pretty torrid time overall, Ryan O'Toole got roasted by Keelan Sexton. Our midfield stepped up when they had to and between that and the McCarthy's purposeful runs we created enough to win. The performance against Derry was much better, this was a case of job done. I just want to say how dam proud I am of vinny and his management team. They are doing absolutely fantastic. I was very spectical when he was appointed and more for him because I hold him to the absolutely highest regard when it comes to GAA and Monaghan.he owes Monaghan nothing. He and his team have done so so much right and anything from here is bonus territory even though we will all always want 1 more step further. He has blooded more players than anyone and even still is putting on players at the death in games that would make you ask why, but that's pitting serious tempo minuets into young inexperienced lads. The last 2 weeks we have seen a massive changing in monaghan. Almost all the old guard dropped and young lads given a go and they diddent let themselves down. I'm always proud to be a Monaghan but none more than this year with the legend Vinny at the wheel. Monaghan forever in debt of the players and people of the likes of him, Connor, Drew, Darren, Dessie and Karl and they learned from the likes of Dick, Eoin Tommy, Damien, jinksy, Dermot, and Jap I know I have left a lot out but when you look at the name there we are and have been spoilt with greatness in this amazing county. But I guarantee you all those players will say we didn't win enough and we can say the same about today's teams. We need to push on and win a few things as we have the experience of being in the top tier on for the best part of the last 20 years, made plenty of finals and won a few of them but we need to push on and forget about this small county BS. I think Kerry are better than Dublin, so we have the toughest Semi final IMO. Super performance from the minors last year. Well executed game plan against what appeared to be a Mayo team lost for ideas. Not for the first time this year the lads physically blew away the opposition, we are bigger than most previous years it would appear but also extremely mobile. Playing a great brand of attacking football with a solid defence. Big challenge in two weeks against Kerry but a great chance of making a All Ireland Final.
