I've played on teams that were on the receiving end of a hammering, it's not a nice place to be. The players and management have my sympathy.

But you reap what you sow. Years of terrible results at underage, terrible results at Connacht club level at every grade. Terrible results in schools football. And nothing done about it.

Poacher can't be blamed for that.

The amount of money wasted is actually criminal.

How can our neighbours Roscommon for example produce top class footballers, their clubs have a great record in Connacht and have won a senior all Ireland club. What are they doing right that we aren't.

Unfortunately I can only name five or six top class intercounty footballers we have produced in the last 20 years. Something is seriously wrong. We are not a serious football county but we are great at making excuses.

The last two All Irelands were won by Dublin in 2023 relegated from division one in 2022 and the current All Ireland Champions Armagh were relegated from Division one in 2023. Lots of top class footballers in them counties.

Even if they do stay up I doubt they'll do an embarrassing pitch invasion like Monaghan to celebrate it.

Barry McNulty

in fairness casey and rooney were very poor when push came to shove in croke park last year so i'd take them off that list immediately, casey doesn't play enough either to be considered top class,

In fairness not one on that list would start for a Roscommon team. Barry and Keith may make the bench.

I do go to Leitrim matches and Donal Casey or Darragh Rooney are not top class intercounty footballers in my book. Ryan and Barry are top class intercounty footballers and keith has been Fantastic in division 4 I don't think he would be mobile enough to play for a division one side, Barry and Ryan are top class.

Forget about what coulda, should , woulda been. Apart from Barry and Ryan no top class inter county county footballers have been from Leitrim since Maxwell, Shane foley, Michael McGuinness etc… that's 20 odd years.

Forget about it.

Our minors are flying it they won every competition they entered since under 13, our under 20s are flying it also, practically our senior team at this stage. Get behind them.

Better days are coming

Ah it's a sin to be passionate about your county… half of your supporters are wearing the Azzuri Donegal jersey as it was the last matches they were at .. like Man City fans

Well at least we have the odd cup to celebrate (two past year in fact), not relegation battles.

Hope you're enjoying Division 2.

I think Leitrim are caught in a seemingly endless cycle where the the needle moves between the worst and best position that in reality the team is capable of achieving. The players know what is possible and what is not regardless of what the manager tells them at the start of a season. In 2024 ye reached the top of what was possible, in finishing 2nd in Division 4 and contesting the division 4 final, in which ye were well beaten. Based on that, what realistic target could be set for 2025? Hardly promotion to division 2? The most optimistic pundit or player would have suggested, maintaining 3 status would be a big success. This is still possible, though looking highly unlikely based on the manner of the 2 defeats thus far. I do not know Andy Moran and have never met him but I know that he sought advice from Maughon prior to taking the Leitrim position, I posted it at the time. The advice was, take the job by all means and give it your best, but if you expect these players to do what you did for mayo in terms of commitment, then do not take it. This advice would not only apply to Leitrim, but to any division 4 side. Players who have no realistic hope during their playing years of lifting any sort of cup cannot be expected to make the same sacrifices as players who rightly or wrongly believe they they can lift Sam, or a provincial or even a T Cup. The new rules have compounded things in this regard, with the prospect of parking the bus as a damage limitation exercise now gone. The last thing division 4 sides need is a manager with big ideas of taking down a top team and so on. The players know its unrealistic. Leitrim, I think, would have been far better off with local manager who would improve what he could and to borrow a phrase "give it lash" when it comes to games. What the current u20s do in the future is a different matter, but for now Leitrim should play with abandon and go for it baldheaded in every game.
