It would mean using increased licence fees to spend on programming.

As opposed to using a sustainable and reasonable wage structure to ensure they have enough money to spend on programming.

Their Player website is like something from the early 00s. Trying to watch anything live online is a waste of time.

The guests they roll out on the late late, as pointed out repeatedly, resembles a stroll through the RTE staff canteen.

Why should viewers be expected to pay more for an ever worsening level of service??

Feck that's a scandalous amount of money to be paying any1 for doing a radio or tv show in Ireland, I'd be inclined to half those wage and then some, and how do you know that and increase in TV lisence fee wouldn't be used on giving raises?

Also is it right that I'm charged 160 a year for something I don't use? I pay € 60 a month to Sky (worth it) and I got Netflix and Amazon (very cheap) but RTÉ want the government to put an extra levy on them 2.

You just wouldnt get people to work there if you do that. the advertising revenue dictates a lot of what the presenters get. if there wasnt people watching and the ad revenue coming in then they wouldnt get the wages they let.
you are being charged 160 to have a tv not to have RTE.

Name them.

Who in RTÉ would get poached by another station if you reduced their wages?

But killing fields if I'm being charged €160 for just having a TV then why were the big wigs from RTÉ asking the government last week to put pressure on the people who don't have a TV lisence to pay up and to also increase the lisence fee?

Government are already taking in tax revenue from you paying for Sky, Netflix and Amazon Kingdomboy. Having to pay €160 for a licence and most if not all of the licence revenue goes to prop up RTE television is a joke. It should be sold off to anyone who might buy the profitable parts or parts with poteblntial. When the licence fee was introduced in 1962 there were no other broadcasting options to pay a licence for. So many streaming services and providers now that people pay subs for and they're taxed that there's no need for a licence.

Totally agree…. Who on earth would poach any of RTE's presenters….. they are all brutal… Marty might get a gig with Baghdad radio but would never be let on any other TV station….!!!

I could see Claire Byrne going to today fm to replace Matt Cooper maybe, otherwise I am struggling to name someone.

At least the IRFU make an effort, the other crowd are a joke. Two biggest clubs in Dublin have their "stadiums" paid for by the local authority.

Wouldn't let them next nor near a GAA pitch."
The IRFU will own the aviva stadium in a number of years so the GAA better be prepared for more of this noise, from the Soccer crowd, once they are homeless. Its amazes me how these people are demanding freebies from the GAA instead of building their own organizations. They almost hate the GAA for showing that it is possible to do things. The IRFU have cash reserves of 50 million but wont put a penny into the Connacht stadium. 3 million would build a rugby dome but no they want the GAA to hand over their one.

I agree with you 100% Greenandred, if I was RTÉ I wouldn't be drawing attention, I'd be sitting back drawing my handy 400 grand a year, they wouldn't get that kind of money anywhere else, and they have it all to them selves.

All of them were able to work through the pandemic and when you think of all the people that couldn't do that and that now will have to pay back the PUP payment and will be struggling financially and RTÉ want to increase the lisence fee and don't tell me its for better programming because I can get better programs on sky Netflix and amazon.

Soccer wont be homeless. IRFU have cash reserves and are assisting Connacht a lot with their proposals for the new stadium in sportsground but are not going to build a rugby dome or are looking to the GAA to use and certainly are not looking for any hand over of the dome.

Good question. I thought it was just called astro but it's 4G synthetic per link below. Will surely rip the legs if you played rugby on that surface?

Not liked by everyone playing rugby though but ideal when weather is bad.
