Had a look yesterday and our average scoring across all three grades this year is about 12 scores a game. That's just not enough to win any match at any level.

Meath are lacking players with composure and who are able to take a score. Donal lenihan top scored in the league with 3-9, Jordan Morris had 2-10 and Shane Walsh 1-10. In Seven league games our top scorers didn't even breach 20 points. We're also very poor when it comes to the advanced mark. 0-3 across the seven games, some teams are getting 3-4 Points a game off it. We also had 7 different free takers across the league, think there was 19-20 points from that. You're free taker over 7 games should be chipping in 4-6 points a game at least. That's a Colm O'Rourke problem and needs to be resolved, no county in the country is playing without a designated free taker even if there's one from the left a one from the right, it needs to be sorted out. And one final one in all our seven games this year only once v Carlow have we out scored our opponents.

This is the key issue and needs resolution."
Yeah and Donal lenihan started most games off the bench, fair play to him but it's worrying when you look at the whole team and he's top scorer with the least amount of minutes tbh.

And the advanced mark as well I'm not a big fan of it because it stops forwards from trying to take their man on. But its a huge advantage when you can get a point off of it when your under pressure and the opponent is on top and we rlly need to use it more coz it can save you in games

Just looking at the team that lined out against Offaly in 2019 and subs on the bench. Although they only scraped over the line that day, it looks a much superior panel of players than the current panel. Have the Offaly panel improved since then ?

I really don't know what panel you looked at from the last time. I'm after going through it there and it's much much worse than what we have at present

Yes 20s are out both would be available. Frayne and Gray easily good enough to start for Meath seniors, especially with whats currently there.

Wyer and Rogers are good enough to start! Wyer has been really good for 4 years for Ratoath and Rogers can score off both feet and is a solid free taker which we haven't had for ages! James McEntee was one of the best performers over the past 3 to 4 years and won't let us down!

Coffey gets a start at half back, Ryan at full back, other than that no surprises to starting 15, good to see return of DK. Expect to see full back line get more protection and hopefully Meath forwards can find their shooting boots, seems to be a problem across the grades.

I'd expect Hickey drops back to half back line, Harnan between the lines, McGowan plays as a third midfielder. Leaves us with 4 forwards and as you rightly say where will the scores come from. No regular free taker either so I'll assume Morris and Lenihan will share duties from their favoured side.

I'll honestLy say I don't think that'll be the starting team or bench by 4pm on Sunday, it never is, so until the ball is thrown in I'm not sure where things stand.

It's very concerning to see how little interest there is in this game on here too. I dunno if it's a general malaise after the league, the U20's going out this week or just the new championship formation general. I'll travel in hope than expectation on Sunday. Best of luck to Colm, Donal and the tea and hopefully everything we've seen to date has been phony warfare and we blow the doors out on Sunday

A very proud day for the coffee family. Enjoy it. I know how much this will mean to you all. As we grew up in the shadow of our school friends, and then eclipsed them, for us now to be facing each other in what many would see as a 50/50 game I really think we will get the win though.

Presume hickey will play the same role campion played before his injury where he had been dropping back, could be a rlly good position for hickey he's a very smart footballer and could get his form back. Also would be great for carrying the ball forward from that role.
Great to see Ben wyer in the squad after a great few years for Ratoath, hopefully isn't just there to make up numbers

Don't see the point in naming dummy team or panel, its a pointless distraction and of no benefit to anyone, however, it has become embedded it GAA. Thought rules were been put in place to correct this. Needs to be big improvement in all areas if we hope to progress. Little between teams and home advantage and recent events in Offaly should even things up. On our recent form they have a good chance. I for one have not seen Offaly play since last year so have little to go on, Div 3 seemed competitive, they got the win over Longford, so expect a tight game. Would be good to see is kicking 15/16 points and not rely on scoring goals. I know a win is a win but as seen in league, when the goals dry up, we struggle.

Actually with the talk of dummy teams, why don't the gaa go down the route of naming a squad with allocated squad numbers. It would eliminate the nonsense of dummy teams being announced. Either that or start fining counts board's for the naming of dummy teams.
Ryan named at full back is interesting, if only we had a proven full back in the county

Cheers for that.Ive only saw Ratoath a couple of times the last year or 2 and probably end up looking out for ma gill, Wallace's and mac machon etc lads I played against a few years back.Would be good to have options as a freetaker (Rodgers) and Leinhan who is named to start Sunday.Good to see James mactee back as well.

Yeah I'd say Hickey will drop back and McGowan will be out around the middle alright. Flood at corner back wonder is that because he likes to get forward?.Id like to see Keoghan in the fullback line and maybe move flood out to 6.If Leinhan starts I'd say he is on the frees probably the best we have at them.Hopefully we can get the win and build momentum from it.Its like the old days for us now straight knockout must win no second chance so wishing the lads the best of luck on Sunday.

Why fine a couple board for naming a dummy team?

Why is there this entitlement to know the team 3 days before a game? Its not the norm in other sports so why shoukd this be different?

60 mins before k.o is the requirment in soccer. Could you imagine pep or arteta being fined on Monday evening for not showing their hand for Wednesday nights game?

Things change in squads, fitness race, illness, change of hear on a close call.... all things that can change from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon...

Don't think it's just this match that's low key. Was talking with people from a few places in work and they didn't even know the championship was starting. The level of disinterest in this thing is amazing.

A few years ago the media would have bigging up a trip down the country as a possible banana skin for Dublin but they don't even pretend anymore.

Inter county football has one good competition - the league. This rubbish for the next 3 months is just killing time until the clubs can get going.

I think you're dead right. The GAA has inadvertently made the leagues the most important competition for seedings etc, and the inevitable outcome with a two tier system is confusion and the inevitable outcome of confusion is disinterest...

On another note, I cant make the game as Im out of country, but will try watch it or follow along if I can. Safe trip to all you lads heading down. Up the Royals. Will check in tonight for the aftermath.
