Yes I agree with you 100% . Beggars belief that some people thought he was really poor today. Was 1 of his better performances I thought but as you rightly said he needs to back it up now with consistently good performances.

Begging a veteran who has opted out to come back is hardly moving on though like what was suggested.

Scully was fantastic today, ran at the defence made and finished a great goal. Once again midfield destroyed Jones the pick of them but neither won a single kick out. Jones can't catch a ball in contest and goes up with one hand a lot. People complaining about the kickouts but there was no movement or options presented to him. latouche25 (Meath) - Posts: 540 - 05/02/2023 19:07:53 2456709 Link 1 |

I don't blame Harry one bit. No one showing , he's not to blame. Has to be Colm's number 1 priority

It's a bit unfair the likes of Walsh having to play 3 competitive games in a week. Gaa need to look at that seriously. atta (Meath) - Posts: 704 - 05/02/2023 20:07:55 2456753 Link 0 |
Totally. It's disgraceful

O Rourke has a point but he didn't have to start Walsh today and then bemoan Sigerson. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2837 - 05/02/2023 20:22:15 2456760 Link 0 |
Happy with the win , two wins out of two not a bad return for the new management set up and the players involved , lots to improve on which is good after a win also. WhyTheLongFace (Meath) - Posts: 934 - 05/02/2023 20:35:19 2456764 Link 16 |
Agreed. Was looking at the set up at every kickout and very often there was little or no movement outfield for hi. To hit. Jinxie (Meath) - Posts: 6347 - 05/02/2023 20:47:05 2456775 Link 1 |
What do you mean didn't have to start him. He contributed 10 pts last week. We were lucky to get through without him. So we were to risk losing a game without starting him for the sake of a college winter tournament? The point is that these players are being put under tremendous stress physically running these competitions in parallel but neither team management has any concern how the other team are doing. Its all on the player who doesn't want to let either team down. This is wrong but O'Rourke is hardly going to back down for his own agenda.

Exactly.........Begs the question How can management continue to look at that.? Its not like it was a new problem that is only seen recently. Something that one good focussed training session could improve. I believe that area has to show big improvement against Derry.

On the kickouts I think we had a few issues. royal11 (Meath) - Posts: 102 - 06/02/2023 10:17:31 2456833 Link 0 |
The Sigerson is played at the wrong time but a lot of those players are on scholarships so they have to play College. Walsh obviously an important player but there is a panel for a reason FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2837 - 06/02/2023 15:13:48 2456871 Link 0 |
Mixed bag. Good start with the goals but then didn't push on at all. In the second half I felt we didn't push on and when the bench was sprung it felt like the team got worse not better. At the same time it is another win and leaves us right in the mix for promotion if we can beat Derry. For the talk of a kicking game bar the first 15 minutes we didn't do much of it. We lost the shape and couldn't kick into the full forward line. Shane W and Matt C were definitely losses in terms of being outlets and linking the play. On the positives Adam O'Neill very good man to win contest and a seems comfortable at this level. Jones was much better this year and set up 2 of the goals Scully seems to have improved a good bit and good to see Lenihan back with Meath he is a sharp finisher. A lot of talk on here about the kick out strategy or lack of one and a lot of people suprised the new management haven't implemented a kick out strategy. Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1012 - 06/02/2023 19:11:22 2456905 Link 0 |
Two very different opinions on kickouts, some laying blame on keeper and others saying no movement to give him options. In truth a bit of both, however, Hogan had options on several occassions and just like last week he either did not spot the free man or did not thrust in his own ability to go quickly. All concerned need to get on same wavelength quickly, its an ongoing issue that has to be sorted, priority one if we hope to improve. Overall a positive start to what is shaping up to be a very competitive division. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2196 - 06/02/2023 20:24:50 2456917 Link 4 |
Good result at the weekend and great to see big crowd out. Performance wasnt great all the same i feel. The number 6, lilis was causing all sorts of problems and we didn't seem to work out that the clare keeper was waiting for everyone to hit the wings on his kickouts and he just waited for the last man to run to the top of the D for nice easy 10 yard pass..
