Massive congrats to Trim at the weekend, to think back to round 1 when we almost had them beat but they pinned us back for a draw. Meathman678 (Meath) - Posts: 63 - 15/11/2022 17:46:16 2447692 Link 0 |
The Downs are a good side. I've seen them twice this year. That been said I think rathoath are better. Downs were deserving winners in Westmeath. But for me I can't see past a rathoath win by 2/3. in a tight game. I'm gonna go to game so looking forward to it. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 15/11/2022 19:54:50 2447710 Link 0 |
And you have just managed to slaughter the English language as well.

Curious to get peoples thoughts on how many people will go to Croke Park for this game? No reference point really… would there be 5000? Up4deMatch (Meath) - Posts: 20 - 16/11/2022 11:26:33 2447737 Link 0 |
The fact its a double header with 4 different 'counties involved' I'd say you may get about that yea, maybe 6000-6500 as for the likes of Ratoath and The Downs (possibly Portarlington as well) this will be a unique experience for the club, possibly first time in HQ for them all so they will get big support as it doesn't always happen.

RTE coverage will probably impact attendance plus the rugby game v Australia at 8pm. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1173 - 16/11/2022 12:03:41 2447747 Link 0 |
Incredible win for Trim! They're a funny team, always seem to play best when either losing or completely written off. Just hope the favourites tag doesn't get to them now! As for Injuries, I believe Murtagh should be fine but Cullen is out for the season after knee surgery. Meathgaalad (Meath) - Posts: 171 - 16/11/2022 13:13:13 2447765 Link 0 |
I wouldn't say Ratoath are a physical team. They are a fast footballing side with very good athletes. They were bullied by the Tones last year and even for stages in this years final they struggled to impose themselves against Summerhill. What could stand to Ratoath is their intercounty experience. Majority of their starting 15 has played underage for Meath and 8 have played with the seniors at various points over the years. Would The Downs have many players in with Westmeath? Thought they looked a big team vs Rhode but of course that doesn't make their style a physical one. The Downs had 5 lads on the Westmeath Tailteann Cup winning panel - 2 starts in Lynam and Loughlin along with Drumm, O'Sullivan and keeper Martin. I believe a few more called in for 2023. Mitchell and Egerton are county hurlers and have played in Croker a few times. It's a tight one to call. The Downs have beaten a poor enough looking Ardee team. Ratoath beat an average Rhode side (by their standards) and didn't look overly impressive v Summerhill but got the job done. Who would be Ratoath's main men ? I read Sean Brazil is on the way back ? Where does he play ? Joey Wallace obviously a big loss.

The likes or the McGowans, McGill, Flynn and O Brien would all be big men but very athletic. I don't think there will be anything between the teams.

I think this game will come down to whoever can make and convert goal opportunities, Ratoath are defensively strong at stopping goals but against the better opposition struggle to score many, a tight game for sure but the meath men to get over the line! Congrats to both Dunshaughlin and Castletown for making their respective finals. They'll face Fethard St. Mogues and Adamstown respectively (both of Wexford). Both Wexford teams will have home advantage so it could be a Leinster final double header in Wexford Park. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 19/11/2022 16:36:17 2448173 Link 13 |
Two out of two so far today! Let's hope Ratoath can make it a clean sweep! boeder (Meath) - Posts: 59 - 19/11/2022 17:06:51 2448175 Link 0 |
Just left themselves too much to do at the end. The 14/15 mins without a score in second half cost them badly, Great effort though RR (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 19/11/2022 18:44:25 2448185 Link 0 |
Hard luck to rathoath. One positive is daithi McGowan has to be a certain starter under orurke. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 19/11/2022 19:44:00 2448192 Link 0 |
Ratoath were far and away the best team . Unfortunately for them conceding 2 goals. But would still have beat them easily only for the ridiculously one sided referee. Gave very soft frees to the downs and ignored hard fouls on Ratoath players. Even gave a free the wrong way to save them in extra time. And was leaving a player with 2 yellow cards on the field until it was pointed out. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 553 - 19/11/2022 20:15:18 2448194 Link 0 |
Very disappointing. Didn't perform apart from Dáithí McGowan who was phenomenal. Way too open in defence that let the Downs through way too easily. Probably performed for around 10-15 minutes of the game. And yet, we should still have at least taken it to extra time. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 19/11/2022 20:19:52 2448195 Link 13 |
