Good game in Navan today, McGill, Wyer, O'Fearrail and Wallace all very good in defence even if the black card Wallace got was foolish! Flynn, McMahon and Daithi McGowan all good in attack. Referee was a little fussy and gave soft frees both ways. Would think Wyer would be worth a look in the O'Bryne Cup based on the last few displays I've seen from him. great respect for Lar wall, and while obviously will be shouting as Meath man for Ratoath...i think his knowledge of Ratoath is already an edge for them

Not sure - I think Ratoath have change dup their style a bit - they are harder to breakdown that the early rounds of Meath Championship and I think if they click up front they will be hard to beat! Yesterday's game was a good test for them but I think they will be disappointed with how they played. The backs were good - and as one poster already mentioned Ben Wyer had a very good game as did Ciaran O'Fearraigh As an aside, I was sitting in the stand and the 'incident' between Brady and O'Sullivan was 100% the doing of the Rhode man - and why their full back then got involved is beyond me! It only helped Ratoath Royalblufill (Meath) - Posts: 515 - 07/11/2022 12:20:30 2446733 Link 1 |
Well done to Ratoath. They were definitely the better team and they can play way better. They took very few risks even when clear passes were on. I think they'll need to go more direct and use their strong midfield on kickouts to beat the Downs. Croke Park will suit their forwards though and that's the biggest win by a Meath senior club in a long while. Also well done to Dunshauglin, they were really struggling in the first half. Conor Gray and Matt Costello played their best football of the year in the second half and Kinsella and Murphy were also dangerous. They should be winning Leinster. Lastly well done to Castletown. That's a big win for them and I think it's the Carlow champions in the semi final so they'll fancy a shot at a final. 3 Leinster club finals would be brilliant for the mood around the county. Our champions' record in the club SFC really is dreadful. In the last 10 championships, our county champions have won 3 games (two against the Wexford champions and one against the Louth champions). Having said that, at least you don't have the same teams dominating at senior level like other counties. For example, Rhode have won 12 Offaly SFC titles since the turn of the century. For comparison, Skryne are second in the all time list in Meath and they've "only" won 13 titles in their history. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 07/11/2022 16:47:02 2446775 Link 14 |
Yeah David Brady was literally standing on the line and is then shoved by the Rhode player. Lack of class by the Rhode club in retweeting someone basically insinuating that Ratoath were dangerous and blaming Brady for "getting involved" with players (when it was the other way around). I get the feeling Rhode are used to having things go their way a lot. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 08/11/2022 15:45:42 2446889 Link 15 |
Brady seems to be a tad unlucky with being involved in these incidents

He doesn't seem to be too popular, hard being an outsider even more so when you have previously worked with the media! I didn't think he done anything wrong from looking at tg4 last night. He is very vocal on the sideline which opposition don't seem to like!

Huge test for Trim this Saturday in nolan park. Think they will give a good account of themselves but Danesfort had 11 different scorers in their final (with Richie Hogan being the top threat) which will give Trim all sorts of trouble. Imagine they will deploy toher on Hogan so will be interesting to see how that plays out. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 642 - 09/11/2022 10:51:30 2446938 Link 2 |
The worst possible draw for Trim this year and very unlucky in their first cut at Leinster. Would have been nice to draw any other county champions even just to get a game under their belt before facing KK champions. Danesfort racked up 1-30 from play in their final and when it comes to refereeing, Meaths whistle happy refs hamper them in Leinster. off_the_wall (Roscommon) - Posts: 72 - 09/11/2022 14:09:04 2446982 Link 0 |
Am I right that Kilmessan's win in 2008 is the only Meath club's victory over Kilkenny opposition at any level? As far as I remember, the story is narrow losses (like Kiltale) sprinkled amongst heavy defeats. In our junior final against Mooncoin, we played pretty much as well as could be expected but still came away with a 7 point loss.

Kilmessan won leinster and got to all Ireland semi final , only club in meath to ever do so. Explain how winning one game in Leinster would be a "bigger triumph" ?

Wow. Some result for Trim. Definitely didn't see that one coming. Still very tough for them to win Leinster with Oulart the Ballagh there but they won't be short of confidence now. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 12/11/2022 17:17:37 2447311 Link 13 |
Ha didn't even realise that Oulart The Ballagh were knocked out today as well. So disregard that part. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 12/11/2022 17:19:56 2447312 Link 11 |
What a win for Trim and Meath hurling. To beat the cats in their own backyard is some achievement. Trim need to go on and finish the job now and bring a Leinster title home. tuppy23 (Meath) - Posts: 154 - 12/11/2022 17:22:48 2447313 Link 1 |
Fair play to Trim, brilliant result. Life in Meath Hurling yet. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 12/11/2022 18:10:41 2447316 Link 1 |
They need to go on and try win the all Ireland not just the leinster to be in the senior next year, the hurlers were always in meath and the tradition, maybe this will bring the county setup back to life now, well done

Always think that if Kiltale at their peak managed to grind out a win against one of the Kilkenny teams they faced in Leinster, they would have won an All Ireland. If I remember correctly, they were narrowly beaten two years in a row by the eventual All Ireland champions and probably should have won both times.

Some win for Trim. bookies took a fair beating on that match. Another tough match against tullamore but they have nothing to fear now. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 642 - 14/11/2022 16:46:08 2447563 Link 0 |
