His leadership and experience will be missed, hoped he would have committed for another year, a very important year for the future of Meath football. However, if true he owes the county nothing, always gave his best. One or two more may decide to call it a day, must be very difficult to return for winter training year after year with little to show for it. Wish them well and thank them for fantastic service. Hopefully players coming in can give as much and experience success along the way.

Was at the Sigerson League semi final last night between DCU and Maynooth in which maynooth prevailed by a point. 3 Meath men on the pitch. Shane Walsh for DCU had a solid game at 11 but got a costly black card for a check off the ball. He's looking fit and hungry again though which is promising.
Maynooth had Ciaran McCarrick at corner back picking up Sean Jones from Monaghan which was a great battle, I thought McCarrick did very well and seems to be highly thought of by manager Davy Burke and also found himself on rob Finnerty from Galway in the latter stages. Lastly ruairi kinsella also played for Maynooth and was playing corner forward scoring an excellent point from play, certainly one to keep an eye on ! Really great to see 3 Meath men playing and playing well at this level as you don't see many Meath players playing sigerson football.

Heard Menton is retiring as well from an Ashbourne man.

Only other player I can see retiring is Keoghan. McMahon, O Sullivan, Harnan, McGill are all still 28/29 and only in their prime.

Menton had intentions of retiring last year and had told Andy about it. Then the fiasco and embarrassment of the co board officials changed his mind, as he didn't want it to be assumed he wasn't getting on with Andy. So he said he'd give it another year for mcentee.
I have written about this many times on here without mentioning the players. (The other I won't name either at this stage, as I hope that someone can have a word with him and maybe he might be convinced to try one more year ) I had hoped that menton may have given it another year under orurke but if what people are saying here is true then obviously not. I thank him wholeheartedly for his dedication to the Meath team, a great leader and player.
Ps it does put to bed the utter bs that some wrote here about him not getting on with previous management when he stayed on because of way he was treated. Anyway that's all in the past. A new brighter future awaits us. Hopefully

Donal lenihan back involved

Weren't we told he didn't fall out with previous management etc..

Aaron lynch getting a chance

But he's not inter county standard according to plenty

The O'Neill brothers in the half back line and Campion in the half forward line….. David McLoughlin getting a long overdue chance at this level.

So much bluster spoken previously about players who didn't make themselves available in recent times for Meath and it wasn't previous managements fault, that there was nothing to see, no falling out etc.. but here's the first game for Colm O'Rourke and lads making themselves available to be seen by Colm and his team and using their opportunity to show what they can do in a green and gold jersey.

Obviously this is nowhere close to a final panel for the 2023 season and many lads will come in from the regional selection, plus clubs winning at senior, intermediate and junior and underage too, but it's great to see lads getting an opportunity, some will impress, some won't and they might be given chances on the extended panel Colm has said he'll have working in parallel with the senior panel.

Very positive first steps for me…

Donal Lenihan didn't fall out with previous management.

He wasn't happy with the amount of game time he was getting so he stepped away to concentrate on playing for his club. No fall out no hard feelings no big drama all very amicable despite what you would like to be the truth.

Good to see likes of lenihan and Lynch involved.

I'd be very suprised to see much impact from the regional teams though in terms of new panel members. It was a fine competition in its own right but the standard was reflective of the intermediate championship, mixed enough. I'd expect Meath first team to give them a bit of a hammering tomorrow.

He's just looking for something that isn't there. Some new players involved in a new managers first game....STOP THE PRESS.

Completely normal.

some players who were involved previously with the last management and who walked away because they believed weren't getting enough game time are back because they are hoping under the new management they might get that game time that was lacking..... STOP THE PRESS

Completely normal.

He's like some tabloid journalist working for a red top rag paper looking for controversy that isn't there .

For the regional team selection that's playing this match this is one off game involving players who for the most part have never played together before. The Meath team playing them also includes 2 regional players. I wouldn't write off regional players if they find it hard to gel in the only game they will play together.
Based on the performance of Meath club teams in the various Leinster club championships over last 2 decades there is less of a difference in standard between the senior clubs and the lower grades in Meath than other counties (Meath Junior and Intermediate clubs tend to do well in the club provincial championships while the senior clubs over the years have a terrible record in the Leinster senior club championship).
Meath's success over the years was based on having a good spread of players from different clubs. Sean Boylan found good players from all grades of Meath club football and in 1967 the Meath first team that won the all Ireland had 15 clubs represented.

Fair comment. I'd love to see a few players come through from the regional tournament and make their claim as good county players. Just don't see it this year though as from the matches that were played, it was the known players who stood out and the unknown ones who did well are definitely not inter county class in my mind.

Strange game Regional team won although none of the regional players really stood out today apart from the regional meath panel members (Keoghan, Scully, Harkin) Scully was probably the best player on the pitch and looks a certainty to start for Meath 2023. Thought Adam O'Neill was the new addition for Meath who played best.

Judging by today, and of course it was just an exhibition game, some of the regional players are as good or better than their counterparts!

Yeah, fair play to all stars. Meath had strong breeze in first half and up by 7 at half time. Meath getting goal in first few mins should have killed game but all stars showed serious grit and leadership all over the pitch to get back into it. Was really impressed with Meaths footpassing and shooting in first half.

Agreed with this. Scully, Harkin and Keoghan definitely stood out for the regional team. Sean Brennan done well and will probably be sub keeper and I thought Barry O'Connell done well. For the Meath team Adam O'Neill the standout newcomer but also thought Sean Coffey and Sean Rafferty done their chances no harm. Good to see Lenihan and Campion back. Some poor performances on the Meath side but it's November so it doesn't really matter at all. Positives for me is that Scully and Harkin seem to have taken their games up a level. And Adam O'Neill looked very comfortable at that level
