Replying To Ashrules: "The upcoming championship games will be an interesting opportunity to see how the lads ignored this year perform. Especially when on the same field as O Rourkes selections. I think there is abundant talent in the County" Ash you've been throwing this put for weeks so I'll ask again. Who are all these players O'Rourke has "ignored" and not given a chance? And who should those same players be playing instead off? There's a panel of about 70 plus next years U20's who'll all be training again from October time onwards after the club season. That's 100-110 players. I'm sure if players stand out in the championship Colm will give them a chance.
So again who are all these undiscovered players that Colm is ignoring. Give us even 5??

Replying To nobull456: "I think that is a fair and realistic post. I note you made you comments without any reference to the side show .Winning the TC was a DISASTER was the Q to cut off and ignore this rubbish that has really nothing to do with football. Who cares anyway who brought who on to the panel and when. It would be twisted suit the agenda anyway. Why respond beyond this point? What purpose does it serve? We seem to have good foundations laid now .I like what players are saying about freedom with responsibility. That to me is a cornerstone to attitude that will reap rewards no doubt Time is required to tell us more and how we are against stronger opposition . I agree on your point about Costello and how he can be brought into the game more .He looks the part at this point. I would normally put a lad like him at midfield with a free role, but midfield is doing well and perhaps leave well enough alone ,Anyway ,i can see that catered for by backroom. I recall Colm saying something about additions to backroom perhaps ,and that could be interesting I also like that as reported the door is always open to a player who needs to improve his standards. To me in a nutshell what is happening is trying to improve standards and nothing else.....So far so good !" Well Nobull, yeah hopefully we keep improving but as you say we wont know till next year how much progress or little progress is been made?Ill be honest wasnt happy with the way the end of the league and championship went and didnt know what way to take the TC but it's been positive in alot of ways.Big step up needed for next year no doubt and hopefully we can keep improving.Might be good to get someone else in the backroom team to add something different for next year maybe a sport physiologist or a defensive coach or maybe they have that already not sure.

Replying To brian: "We'll said nobull
On yours and Proudroyals point re Costello, would having Walsh back next year free him up to move out to CHF. Then you'd have Jones, Flynn,Gray and Costello out there, huge men for Brennan to kick long too. I'm not saying Costello is a QB type CHF in the mould of Giles , mcguigan or deccy o'sullivan but we need to get him on the ball more. Was Colms original plan Walsh at 14 with Costello at 11?
Just a thought?." Well Brian, personally think he might leave Costello in the full forward line and let him roam like this year showed his ability when getting on the end of moves and kicked some fine scores .If he starts at 11 where does Flynn play?not a bad headache to have haha.Walsh(if hes back)and Morris/lynch inside.Jones and Gray midfield and Flynn at 11,McGowan also another option for midfield and 11.If fully fit I think Tomas o Reilly is a good link at 11 but not sure what's going on in training so dont know how hes moving. At least we have options now at midfield and a bit of depth.

Replying To Blackspot09: "Bringing Flynn in???? Why ? Because he is keen ?? I'm keen to be involved in the management so can i be brought in also ?
What could he possibly offer in an advisory role to someone like COR?
The only thing the u20 saga showed is that if he doesn't get exactly what he wants he'll throw his toys out of the pram and leave 30 odd players who had committed to him in the lurch a couple of weeks before championship.
He should be kept well away." Apart from the u20 saga which did not look good ,i hope the WHO is kept in its place .How well will the PERSON fill the NEEDS is what matters. I dont know much about Bernards skillset including ATTITUDE where Colm has made a positive impact. Coaching? Id like that ! Can i have a shot at it ? Bernard a great player yes .After that pass ! I do hope that the top table establish and maintain a system and standard when selection for key positions are required .I hope the WHO approach on its own becomes redundant and replaced by a real standard that tries to measure how the PERSON meets the NEEDS ,and willingness to develop as required. I believe Colm O Rourke will have plenty to say on these matters and rightly so . If the WHO fits with the needs thats fine also. We are talking here about possible continuous improvement for the team. It requires the same approach from the top table downdards .

Replying To Young_gael: "Just weighing in on the chat regarding the backs.
I agree on Lavin, McGill, and Gallagher. As a trio they were the best line we had in that 2019-2021 run that made Division 1, got two Leinster finals and the Super 8's. They were brilliant and looked comfortable at that level, regardless of the obvious shortcomings of the team in that timeframe - they all had some fantastic individual showings. It is true that any Meath team who were successful were ultimately built on the labour of very solid backfield players, especially in the Full-back position. Meath is famous for producing 2/3 of the best full-backs in the game.
True there have been individual lapses since with the lads I mentioned, 2019 was a peak, and 2019 is a while ago now and things change, but personally I feel if Meath are to now press on and progress further from where we now are after winning the TC, I think we need improvement in the backs. I think that is fairly obvious. I mean we should seek improvement everywhere of course but the backfield has to improve to be competitive from here on.
Maybe this is a complete non-runner, but I would also agree with the idea raised by someone here about COR maybe brining Bernard Flynn onboard, even temporarily. It just seems to me like Flynn is very eager to be involved and has been for years, and should be afforded a chance. He was kept out of the management position (and they seem to be desperate to keep him out) and clearly he is seen an outsider to the county board, and the U20 saga showed he is a maverick, which I happen to respect, so maybe a coaching/advisory role is the place for him. Look I dont know the internal line on Flynn but surely he could add something to the pie here, maybe I'm wrong." Think he was talking about Westmeath job, even though they have DD in place and doing quite well. Dont think he would bring anything to Meath, Colm already fill that role.

Can't think of too many others - Fionn Reilly only lad not on panel who id like to see on it.

Back after a short break away. Just to clarify two things. 1. SUPPORTERS , in Westmeath are thinking and saying Dessie Dolan will bring in Bernard Flynn into his back room team.2 Not to replace him , just as an addition. . Bernie has said he hadn't heard a word about it. (And I believe him) his daughter only past couple of days returned to Australia so I think him and his wife will have more pressing things to worry about .

O Rourke himself went on Tommy Tiernans show and expressed a dislike for East Meath Clubs which would not be a problem for the Meath team except that The East side of Meath and South is the only part that did any Development of players for the modern game. You can check club results yourself, Dont take my word. I am not a St Pats past pupil but they have some interesting views. Meath are been lead down a hole. Having a homecoming to celebrate a tournament win . When the best 16 were excluded. Shows what direction we are going. Anyone not embarrassed by the delight at winning the booby prize will not get it.
