GAA Go as far as I can see. Crazy how far this fixture has fallen when it's not even broadcast on TV. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 16/07/2021 13:28:34 2360399 Link 21 |

Did I see somewhere that Ronan Jones played for Dumboyne during the week? Could be wrong but could have sworn I saw that in a match report somewhere.. meathfan1 (Meath) - Posts: 231 - 16/07/2021 13:43:40 2360407 Link 1 |
Point being if he had any chance of being fit for the Dublin game he should be playing. Unless he opted out?

target their talisman....with Our most inexperienced , to me that means means using Hickey, Costello, Reilly etc to take on Kilkenny, O Callaghan & Rock....call these the mental match ups...their is no loss to these young lads if there opposite numbers make strong contributions...tell them that they will, that they are not expected to break even...but thy are expected Not to "give an inch" ….Harnan to "mark" Fenton…..like as if he was playing as a corner back. Our more experienced Guys....Keoghan , Menton etc , just asked to do their job on say Paddy Small & maybe McCarthy don't overburden the older more experienced guys with anything other than just doing their own job...if things go well for them individually...then they can think about contributing to the other battles....Crucially....nail down Scully....he is THE LINK MAN …….IF james Mc was ok.....do a job on Scully ….first of...you have ot u smart this guy....and that's not easy ...but if we match him with our own smart man ...we are more than half way there Thelongwoodslasher (Meath) - Posts: 403 - 16/07/2021 14:55:17 2360435 Link 0 |
Jones is back in contention for Sunday, but I can't see him starting. If he was to start it would probably be in place of Ethan Devine. I would expect Jones to be held as an impact sub, and could be on early in the 2nd half or even 1st half. Meath need to keep this a genuine contest for the second half, unlike last year where we got trampled on and conceded 2-10 in the 1st half. If Meath were playing another county in Leinster outside of Dublin I wouldn't be bringing Conor McGill back in, as I though Ronan Ryan played well the last day and McGill isn't exactly in sparkling form. However this is a different beast on Sunday and I don't think we can take a chance and not start McGill, with Dublin having so many players that need to be tied down. Perhaps Ronan Ryan keeps his place and Donal Keogan is pushed out to the half back line with Fionn Reilly losing out? Fionn Reilly hasn't played against Dublin yet and Ronan Ryan has that bit more experience and I think Ronan Ryan could actually do a man marking job on Niall Scully further out the field. Match ups I would go with: BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 998 - 16/07/2021 16:15:28 2360452 Link 1 |
Focus on Sunday has to be on our own game, Dublin have shown time and time again that they can adapt to any plan opposition put in place. They will target our kickouts from the off and attempt to bury us in first 15/20 minutes, if and its the big if, we retain possession from our own restarts then we are in with a very slim chance. I think its more important to keep our shape defensively than try man marking, this would suit Dublin, they will pull us all over the field and we end up chasing shadows. Has to be kept tight in first half or talk of impact subs is out the window, fitness will be tested to the full in very hot conditions, nothing in recent form to suggest anything but a big Dublin win. At the very least make them work for it and hopefully we see a bit of pride restored in Meath football. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2196 - 16/07/2021 19:42:25 2360496 Link 13 |
He's back. But think it too risky to start him after injury. He will definitely be used as a sub early in second half let's hope match still up for grabs at that stage

Wouldn't agree with Lavin on Con now, i think Keoghan has to take Con, I'd actually start Fionn reilly and have him on Kilkenny he has the size and strength, Kilkenny is a wonderful footballer it mightn't matter who we have on him, the case against Fionn might be he is the only member of the panel not to play in Croke Park before, I'd agree with your other matchups, Not sure if Ronan Ryan starts, I'm guessing the 6 will be Lavin Mcgill keoghan Hickey Mcentee reilly

I suspect that most Meath supporters are now happy to settle for a bit of restored pride and no doubt this forum will fill up with the usual soft expressions of positivity based on a less that 20 point defeat . If we don't win this one I am hoping for a full clear out starting with Andy . We should be starting from a position where defeat is not acceptable or are most happy to bleat these usual old 'well done' cliches . Nothing but a win of any description is acceptable . Here's hoping noluso (Meath) - Posts: 166 - 17/07/2021 12:50:19 2360623 Link 2 |
4 GAA ames being shown live on Sky or RTE this weekend (Inc Westmeath and Kerry in hurling) but Meath and Dublin only available on GAA go.

I think the sports guys in Rte or TG4 don't see this fixture as a contest based on the last few encounters so let's hope they are wrong ! Meath are an even money bet on Paddy Power with dublin getting -11 points at start ..... Worth a punt ?

I know Meath probably won't be that competitive when it comes to it but with Covid and limited tickets I say a lot of people in Meath would have liked to watch this game (Meath is still one of the counties which has a big interest in the county team, a county with a big population and a lot of clubs). A fair few in Dublin would have likely watched also. Come on, you seriously think RTE will get a bigger audience for Kerry Westmeath in hurling that Meath and Dublin in football?. In terms of betting, I know I'm probably silly but backed Meath at 12/1 tomorrow so won't put on any more bets. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1402 - 17/07/2021 16:38:29 2360742 Link 0 |
Seems to be little or no interest in game, 18K allowed in, but are expecting a smaller crowd.

Plenty of interest in the game. Pandemic is the main problem, delta variant rampant, even though I'm double vaxed I'm even a little nervous heading up tomorrow.

I think the interest is there and I'd imagine gaago will do well, I suppose people just have no interest in going to the match as they don't know what to suspect, the atmosphere won't be the same where would you go to get a few drinks even, I'm going myself and I'm looking forward to it but I know it's going to be different and I'm actually driving to it, on the match itself best of luck to the meath lads I hope they throw everything they have at them this time because they stood of them last time, if were going to die then let's die with dignity. Exactly right. Also most people thought when they heard limited tickets were unsure how they would even get them.

Meant to say little interest in game outside of the counties involved, hense GAAGo. Not bothered which network covers it

Ive little time for RTÉ sports coverage at the moment. It's fallen off a cliff since new director came in a few years ago. It's a boring woke fest from the horrendous token presenters on it to likes of Richie Sadlier etc being pundits. I would love it if Dublin were finally beaten and it wasn't even on live TV! Can you imagine the fall out!!! Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 17/07/2021 21:39:20 2360855 Link 15 |
