Gaeil Colmcille lost out to Donaghmore Ashbourne in the Under 13 Division 1 FC final at Ashbourne

Gaeil Colmcille 2-11 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 3-11

Gaeil Colmcille and Donaghmore/Ashbourne faced of for the right to be the inaugural winners of the Ciarán Benville Cup. With the Cup named in memory of the Donaghmore/Ashbourne man the final was played in Ashbourne giving the Moore's home advantage.

The visitors got off to the perfect start after a scramble in the Donaghmore/Ashbourne goal mouth and Luke McDonnell pounced to kick to the back of the net. Two points in a row from Donaghmore/Ashbourne left a point between the sides before an Alex Chetan point restored a two point lead for the Kells men. The Gaeils we're getting on a lot of breaking ball with Dominykas Lomajevas and James Chamberlayne sweeping up for the Kells side

Donaghmore/Ashbourne took the lead for the first time when they goaled in the 10th minute and they followed that up with a point and a two pointer to lead by four points. Chetan got a second point but Donaghmore/Ashbourne grabbed their second goal of the game to open up a gap with the wind in their backs. Donaghmore/Ashbourne pressed for more scores but the Gaeil Colmcille defense with Sam Dolan, Donagh Tinnelly and Will O'Riordan stood strong. The Moore's did finish the half the stronger and added two 2-pointer frees to close out the half and lead by 10 points.

Kells got off to the perfect start in the second half when from the throw in, Jack Farrell raced through and hit a two pointer to eat in to the Donaghmore/Ashbourne lead. Luke McDonnell added another point but just as Kells gained momentum Donaghmore/Ashbourne struck for a third goal. Conor Kearney broke out from defence and he played through Leighton Gornall to point for Gaeil Colmcille.

With the wind in their sails two points from the hard working Charlie Dunne and two from Jack Farrell brought Kells right back into the game. Donaghmore/Ashbourne kept their scoreboard ticking and stretched their lead to six points and could have been more only for the work ethic of the Kells goalkeeper Kyle Deighan who dealt with the high ball and some excellent kickouts. Gaeil Colmcille made some changes with Kayden Brady Tolan, Oisin Flood, Charlie Kearney and Cian Farrelly coming on for one last push and the game was on when Kodi Tormey fed through Chetan who blasted home to leave just three between the sides with over five minutes remaining.

As Gaeil Colmcille pushed for an equaliser, Chetan saw two great goal chances kept out, the first from the Donaghmore/Ashbourne keeper and the second from the upright much to The Moore's relief as they held on for the three-point win.
