Former Tyrone star Mattie McGleenan has been appointed as the new Portglenone senior football manager.
The Eglish clubman and ex-Cavan manager takes over from John McKeever, who led the Roger Casements to an Antrim SFC final appearance against Cargin last year. McGleenan’s first game in charge yielded an impressive 2-17 to 1-8 victory over St John’s in Division 1 of the League last Thursday night.
“Roger Casement’s GAC are delighted to welcome Mattie McGleenan on board as our Senior Team Manager for the 2026 season,” the club posted online.
“A native of Tyrone and a former player with Eglish, Mattie was a key member of the Tyrone side that won the 1995 Ulster Senior Football Championship and reached the All-Ireland Senior Football Final that same year. Playing at full-forward, he was renowned for his strength, scoring ability and leadership during Tyrone’s rise in the 1990s.
“Following his playing career, Mattie established a highly-respected reputation in management and coaching. He enjoyed significant success with Scotstown in Monaghan, guiding the club to multiple county titles and an Ulster Club Final, before going on to manage the Cavan Senior Footballers and leading them back to Division 1 of the National Football League.
“We are excited to have Mattie bring his experience, knowledge and passion for the game to Roger Casement’s as we look ahead to the 2026 season. He will be joined by his backroom team of Darnell Parkinson and Niall Kelly, and we wish them every success in the months ahead.”
