'We're not bothered either way'

Jim McGuinness insists he won't lose any sleep if Donegal miss out on a place in the Allianz League Football final.

A first defeat of the campaign away to Roscommon yesterday means the Ulster champions now trail Kerry at the top of Division 1 on scoring difference ahead of a last round trip to Clones to face an already-relegated Monaghan, while Mayo and Roscommon are also in contention for a final spot.

“There’s a good few permutations,” the Donegal boss told reporters.

“Kerry and Armagh that’s a big one. If Roscommon win the next day, they have a chance of being in the final as well.

“We’re not bothered either way. If we win the game we get there, if we don’t it just gives us an extra week to prepare for Down (in the quarter-final of the Ulster SFC). We’re getting a lot out of the league and we want to keep that going”.

McGuinness admitted that Donegal didn't play well enough to leave Hyde Park with their unbeaten record still intact.

“We have no complaints - we didn’t do enough to win the game," he said.

“That’s the bottom line. We got it back to two with 20 minutes to go, one point in the last 10.

“We’d the wind in our backs and if you’re not winning the game in that situation, you only have yourself to blame really. We have had a good campaign up to this point. There are a lot of learnings to take from today. So we move on now."
