Paul Geaney is unlikely to play any part in Kerry’s upcoming Allianz Football League defence after revealing that he plans on taking a break after Sunday’s All-Ireland club SFC final.
The long-serving forward will lead Dingle out against St Brigid’s at Croke Park and is also set to captain the Kingdom in 2026. But he won’t be rushing back to action as his attempts to overcome the calf injury which restricted him to the role of ‘super-sub’ in Dingle’s dramatic All-Ireland semi-final victory over Ballyboden St Enda’s.
“Anything I pick up in the meantime or in the game itself is not an issue. There’s going to be a big break afterwards,” Geaney told reporters.
“I’m going to get the body right. It’ll be a case of taking a rest and start pre-season then, so I’ll be starting a block of pre-season again after probably a two-week, three-week rest or a month’s rest.
“Then I’ll be starting from scratch. That’s usually about six weeks. I mean, it depends on what you have, after the four weeks as well. Obviously, things can change there with Kerry, but I’d say the plan is that I’m going back.”
