It won't be open draw. It will be the same fixtures that were in place for Provincial Championship but as knockout. Run off over 6 to 8 weeks. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 05/06/2020 16:18:14 2279941 Link 1 |
Talk of Croke Park holding 40'000 is nonsense. If college lecture halls have to reduce their capacity by 90%, how would a stadium with similarly packed seats only have a 50% reduction? CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1643 - 05/06/2020 16:53:04 2279943 Link 8 |
Ach - what sort of sums are they teaching these days ? The area of a circle is pies are square. so that's 3.1415927 x 1 x 1 = 3.1415927 square metres. You're mixing up your radii and diameters. You'd probably need to be thinking about alternate rows being empty and at least alternate seats being empty on the rows that did have folk on them. Any maybe that woul;den't be good enough. Although I suppose folk from the same household would be OK sitting together. I dunno. Having said that, by the time we actually get playing, we might be down to 1m apart. lionofludesch (Down) - Posts: 475 - 05/06/2020 17:49:10 2279947 Link 1 |

So what, all going well could we possibly have christmas All-Irelands? Certainly be interesting to see, bit like the early days of Gaa when finals were played in all sorts of different months. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 05/06/2020 19:31:47 2279954 Link 7 |
God no, void the leagues at once!! :-)

I'll believe it when I see it. Wait til we get into the winter season and people start coughing and sneezing and having sniffles.....it will mostly be flu and the common cold but if players/ spectators are having "flu-like symptoms" the issue of self-isolation will arise for the sick player and their close contacts etc It seems to me that all participants will need to receive the flu vaccine this year at the very least so that where symptoms do arise they will be more easily identified. I'd hope so. Just two games to play and they would be a perfect warm up before knock out championship football.

So still no answer to how players can keep social distancing while playing a game, we are hearing how the fans in the crowd can stay a safe distance from each other but what about us players? Will we have to sign a form stating we are prepared to take the risk and risk to family members? Absolutely no explanation of how this will work dec (None) - Posts: 268 - 05/06/2020 21:16:24 2279963 Link 2 |
:-) the gaa seem intent on pushing it out as far as possible to make sure they can get as much money through the turn style's as possible, like you say above it'll be great to have 32 teams in straight knockout championship, it'll have to be straight knockout if it's to be done by Christmas. You are never going to have 100% protection , you do need to be in close contact with someone for 15 minutes to catch it? The amount of Covid in the community is extremely low , less than 0.002% . If one wants to not play im sure others will understand but if our club is anything to go by 95 if not 100% want to know whens training back on .

So it will be a players choice to play and take the risk? 15mins is rubbish if someone coughs beside you after 5 seconds you could pick something up, why couldn't they outline their plans for the social distancing issue in their roadmap? Why concentrate on keeping the fans safe and not the players? Anyway they should come out and clarify their stance on this important issue

Oh I 100% agree, there's still a huge amount of uncertainty out there and we have to just wait and see what happens. If or when there's a second surge of this bloody virus, any and all plans could go down the drain. Most important thing though is keeping people safe, I can understand professional sports athletes easing their way back to work but our lads and ladies are amateurs and if they don't want to take the risk then they certainly shouldn't be pressured to do so. That's true, we had Monaghan away and Donegal to play in Tralee. It would be a great warm up for sure.

It will be interesting to see what the Gaa have planned. I think I read that the fixtures list is coming out in August which will give us a clearer picture all going well. But we're living day by day at the minute so god knows where we'll be by August. I'd imagine the Gaa across the board, at county and inter-county level will have to run simplified straight KO style competitions this year if they're intentions are to finish the premier competitions by the end of the 2020, but who knows. Straight answer is players can't social distance, not in any serious on field competition, I'd say it's a case of are you prepared to take the risk or not. Sports like rugby are even worse for social distancing! Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 05/06/2020 21:48:12 2279970 Link 7 |
The league option is pretty straight forward if the inter county season resumes in October. Next Spring finish the league from the positions all teams finished in March gone. Absolutely the fairest system and particularly for those teams who have put a lot of effort into the league. Pressure should be made at the next congress to allow this to happen. Also it would mean teams can prepare accordingly for championship 2021 particularly if championship 2020 falls into that year.

Well professional Rugby teams would be testing their players. It's more Amateur Rugby where the problem would be

And good luck to any lad looking to go back to work or pick up a part time bit........I would assume any employer serious about their business will be saying "you're playing a contact sport? Let's see how that goes before I invite that hassle on myself".
