I couldn't find the article I saw the quote in but I found this one to be very useful in explaining why the WHO and the European CDC have been so reluctant to recommend their use. https://theconversation.com/masks-help-stop-the-spread-of-coronavirus-the-science-is-simple-and-im-one-of-100-experts-urging-governors-to-require-public-mask-wearing-138507 This article also was out before the reserch in HK on their effectiveness was published https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/health-environment/article/3084779/coronavirus-hamster-research-proof-effectiveness I can't help but wonder if there is a hint of addition racial issues in this as well, wearing a mask has long been associated with Asia - was it just disbelief that what they did couldn't be right? zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1792 - 28/05/2020 00:40:03 2279365 Link 1 |
I think theyre just uncomfortable to wear so some are developing trendy masks to somewhat counteract that. It's hard to breathe with them on, your face gets itchy, etc.

I see Rugby League is back in Aus, they are predicting that 300M people will watch the 8 games over the 4 days on TV. Then suddenly the broadcast deal with Fox and is announced. It certainly heaps the pressure on the other professional sports. I reckon its Super Rugby but NZ that will be next. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1792 - 28/05/2020 14:49:07 2279385 Link 1 |
Horan----. Rather than accept that he was wrong to say that there would be no games while social distancing was in place he is now saying that what he really meant was that if its two meters its a problem but at one its ok. Seriously? players are supposed to stay one meter away all the time during the games? You either accept that social distancing rules are in place while games go ahead or not one or two meters when it comes to the games is something that could never be managed anyway. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1792 - 28/05/2020 17:12:07 2279397 Link 1 |
Bit of a strange thing to say considering this virus originated in Asia where wet markets are prevalent. Not just in China. Sky News secretly filmed one in Thailand. Vietnam has them as well. Asians wear masks because their cities are filthy and their food hygiene standards are seriously lacking.

How the hell would you enforce such spacing? It's impossible. The ref would be blowing the whistle non stop!

It's not strange comings from him. He had a OTT reply when I mentioned people in Asia have worn face masks in the past.

This is true lads. There was an exact minimum of 2 meters between each player in that game. Its why we lost. We were just trying to get ready for this year. Jokes on ye.

Interesting to hear horan say they're not waiting for a vaccine only waiting for the 2 meter social distancing to be reduced so they can pack the stadia and make loads of €€€€€€€€€€. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 29/05/2020 21:52:11 2279467 Link 1 |
I gave up reading his posts after that reply to you. Life's too short to be wasting your time on that rubbish.

I don't know about the rest of Asia but I was in Japan from 2000-2002 and I used to see people occasionally wearing a mask if they had a cold.

have no real interest in a gaa championship without fans. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 02/06/2020 12:14:40 2279721 Link 1 |
I guess they would space them out a bit. Instead of packing 90,000 into a stadium just keep it at 15 or 20 thousand. Masks required or no entry.

I'd imagine they'd get first priority.
