Jude McAtamney became the first Irishman to kick a field goal in an NFL game in 39 years after making his debut for the New York Giants yesterday.
The former Derry U20 footballer scored four points from his two kicks, one point-after-touchdown kick (PAT) and one field goal, both from close range. In spite of this, the Giants lost 22-27 to NFC East rivals the Washington Commanders at the MetLife Stadium as their poor recent form continued.
McAtamney, who was a late replacement for regular kicker Greg Joseph, also slotted three touchbacks from kickoffs during the game, which means that he kicked from his own 35-yard line and put the ball past the opponent’s endzone, with the ball travelling over 60 yards each time.
TweetStraight over from Jude.
