With their Division 1 status in jeopardy, Malachy O’Rourke was delighted to see his Tyrone side come away from Letterkenny with a win.

The Red Hands’ 0-25 to 0-19 victory over an understrength Donegal gives them a real chance of avoiding relegation ahead of the visit of Dublin to O’Neills Healy Park next Sunday.

“The win is all we wanted,” the Tyrone manager told the media.

“We knew when Donegal picked their team that they hadn’t picked their full team and it was a no-win situation for us in many ways. We just had to get the two points and that’s what we did, just glad to get out of it and leave us with a fighting chance next week hopefully.

“Donegal have to do what suits them best. Any team that’s in a similar position I’m sure would look at it and you have to look after yourself, that’s what Donegal did.

“That benefited us a wee bit today in that they weren’t at full strength, but they still had a really good team with a lot of quality players.

“All the games are knockout games for us now so we’re learning plenty about the team and different individuals, which will help us going forward.”
