Dunshaughlin 1-12 St Colmcilles 1-5

Dunshaughlins 3rd team qualified for the Division 4 Final with a 7 point victory over a dogged Cillies Team in Piltown on Thursday night.

Playing against a strong wind in the first half Dunshaughlin struggled to breakdown the mass Cillies defence.Wesley Goodwin opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a classy point. Cillies pointed 2 frees to lead before a fantastic save from a penalty by Gary O Connor kept the Dunshaughlin in the game.

Conor Hanley, Cillian McCool, Trevor Dowd and Cillian Cribbin drove forward at every opportunity but the scores failed to flow. Further scores from a 50 and a free left Cillies leading 0-5 to 0-1 at half time.

Dunshaughlin did not panic and a calm team talk in the dressing room at half time set out the plan for the second half. Ger Dunne was introduced for Sean Summerville and Shane Claire replaced Seamus Doyle. Early points from Goodwin and Darren Murphy cut the deficit but the concession of a sloppy goal gave Cillies a 5 point lead.

Dunshaughlin did not panic and with Colm Keane and Andy Lyon’s ruling the sky and Shane Claire spreading the ball about like Paudie Clifford the attacks were non stop. A fantastic 2 pointer from Colm Keane and a point from Goodwin closed the gap. Further points from Keane 2 and a wonderful goal from Cillian Cribbin put Dunshaughlin ahead. Further points from Dowd, Darragh Byrne and a 2 pointer from Cormac Dowling put the result beyond doubt to cap a really good team performance.

Gary O'Connor was magnificent in goal. Kenny McTigue and Ronan Hiney were super in the full back line while Hanley, Cribbin, McCool set up numerous attacks. Keane, Lyons, Down, Goodwin and Claire all played major parts in the victory.
