Claregalway going to rue missing a great chance to reach the semis, maybe for the first time? Conor Flaherty was superb at full-forward for them, but dropped one short, wind-aided, when they led by 2 in the closing minutes. Later, they messed up when in possession coming out of defence; Annaghdown got the turnover and Comer - who else? - kicked a superb 2-pointer to level. Pressed up on the kickout, forced the turnover, and got the winner. Very harsh on Claregalway who made a lot of the running throughout. Goalkeeper McGrath will be no. 1 for Galway next season. I think most on here saw it as 50/50 game beforehand and that's how it panned out. I didn't check the odds beforehand, but I'd say they were very tight. It was a great opportunity for both teams to make a semi-final, as they were avoiding the big 3. I can't see Annaghdown or Claregalway if they had made it through, troubling Corofin, Salthill or Maigh Cuilinn. Claregalway have a long way to go yet, so it's not really as if they let a shot at a county title slip by. Where they finished is about their level at the moment. I haven't heard anyone saying they're coming. Anyone who follows Galway football will know the level of their squad at the moment. I wouldn't expect them to be much better next year either. The big 3 all have a good chunk of current and former county players. Annaghdown and Claregalway don't have that quality of player in those kind of numbers.
