There's no reason why Annaghdown should be any good at this stage. Likely the 7th or 8th seed in the last eight, themselves and Monivea.

I think it's because they both went out at the same stage of the championship. It's probably how the rule was written at the start of the championship. However, since both were in the same group and Corofin finished ahead of them, it looks odd now. I'd still expect Corofin to beat them again though. Was that not sorted at the group stage? Corofin won and came second in the group and thus sent Claregalway to a relegation/promotion play off with a Premier Junior 2 team. I was of the understanding that this wouldn't have stood if Claregalway then progressed further in the knockout competition, but Corofin and Claregalway both got beaten in the next round versus St Brendan's and Glenamaddy. A strange decision if this is the case as Corofin on countback had superior results over the competition and finished higher than Claregalway.

I'm not sure many people will want the Tuam job, it's not a very attractive role at the moment. Tuam will have a tough group next year too. Tuam think they have a great chance every year, after having a good league campaign. Maybe they need to start bleeding new players instead of worrying about a league title. Looks like it was an omission in the rules. To be fair to the County Board, they thought of most scenarios bar the one where the teams ended up in the same group, both got through and got knocked out at the same stage. They will most likely update for next year, one would assume. The below is from the regulations document: Procedure for determining lowest placed second team in the Intermediate Championship. 1. The 'second' team that progresses furthest in the Intermediate Championship will retain their intermediate status and the other 'second team' will contest the playoff with the Junior 2 winners.. 2. If both 2nd teams are placed 4th in different groups or exit the championship at the same knock-out stage, then A play-off between the two teams will determine the lowest ranked team. Replay in Play-off if level at end of normal time "Winner on the Day Regulations" in Replay if required. The loser of the playoff will contest the playoff with the Junior 2 winners. 3. If one team qualifies for the Quarter-Finals and the other plays the Preliminary Q/F and both are beaten, the team that reached with Prelim Quarter-Finals (2nd / 3rd) is deemed lower placed and will contest the playoff with the Junior 2 winners.
