Replying To ExiledInWex:  "Nobody likes Thurles but as my father in law says Wexford people got there in 1993 for 3 league finals in much worse cars and never flinched at the idea.
Sometimes if you want to see Wexford get to an All-Ireland semi final, you have to support them in getting there. There are parts of Clare which are just as far from Thurles as parts of Wexford. Ennis is probably 2 hrs on match day yet they get there?
I believe, rightly or wrongly, that Wexford people just want the "ah the match is in Thurles" excuse to whinge and wait for the semi final and then like flies to fresh cow dung descend on Croke Park.
Clare support got their team over the line v Wexford a few years ago. No doubt about that to me and I would hazard a guess anybody there would think it too. The Wexford support was TINY that day. And then you wonder why players won't give the commitment? Why would they to turn up at AIQF stage and play in front of a tiny support?
The match can't always be in your own back yard. But then again even Wexford Park is half full at best. But as I said before, a lot of the problems in Leinster are down to bad marketing. You wouldn't even know the matches are on half the time."
I was at that Clare match in '22 and I don't agree. What got Clare over the line that day was Rory O'Connor going off injured after 15 minutes and more bad luck in the second half with the forced withdrawals through injury of Diarmuid O'Keefe and Shane Reck. I think one other key player had to go off too, possibly Damien Reck.

Yeah I think you probably have a valid point there
Purpleandgold72.
Those injuries were cruel blows and would have seriously reduced our chances of victory.
No team could survive the loss of that many key players.
Yes there was a small Wexford support but I think the absence ot Shane Reck, Rory O'connor, Diarmuid Okeeffe and you believe Damien Reck may have went off injured as well would suggest the big player loss would outweigh the small Wexford crowd as to the reason we lost that game.

The injuries obviously didnt help, but the Clare support definitely helped them get over the line at the end. They drove their lads on to try harder, play harder. Rory went down injured at the 8 or 9 minute mark. We were still well up coming into the last few minutes. Shane was doing a good job on Tony Kelly, him going off was also a turning point ok.
Bottom line is our support out side of Croke Park is pretty pathetic. The Westmeath game in the Park in 2023 beat all for me, only around 1500 Wexford people there for a home Championship game. 2 of the best performances by our team this year were witnessed by so few Wexford people I could count them on the fingers of my 2 hands, and I was related to over half of them, they came up in the car with me.

We are away to Clare also as far as it goes for now. But the fixtures arent finalised yet, that list was sent round the CBs for consultation, and a final fixture list is yet to be published.

Anyone at the follow up meeting for coaching and games last night to discuss the strategic plan?

Wasn't at it myself as was in Dublin for work yesterday and wasn't due home until after 8 pm but have been talking to one of the people who represented the club there all right.

Apparently there's a hell of a lot in it and it points to many areas with scope for change and improvement.

And apparently one of the big things to come from it is Kinnerk reckons there should be allowance for "the elite" Minor player to play adult, for the sake of the player pathway, but under "strict player welfare conditions". But not so keen on an open ticket for all Minors to play adult just for the sake of making up numbers at Junior B or whatever. No discussion on how to define "the elite" Minor or what the strict conditions might be.

Remember this is second-hand information, though. Maybe somebody who was there could fill us in a bit more?

Was at it. Quite critical of the current county board setup in terms of organisation, communication, etc.

I can't say I twigged the "elite" part of the minor piece, He did point it out as not in keeping with other counties that we are aiming to compete with, and that it was a barrier to player development. What I took from it was that his reccomendation was for U18s to be permitted to play adult hurling with clear welfare guidelines. Buffers Alley, The Rapps, Glynn, Harriers, and Sars have a motion in about this. 46 hour break between games, can't play if missed previous minor fixture (except through suspension or if they have finished the competition by more than a week, I think. Very hard to read motion)

Sorry I meant to say while it's up to clubs, the county board should be issuing clear guidelines regarding all of this

I don't know. Remember I wasn't actually at it myself and am only going on second-hand information. I don't know if the word "elite" itself was actually used, or maybe even if the person I was talking to somehow got the wrong end of the stick altogether.

Interesting point about it not being in line with other counties, but it's a bit of an apples and oranges situation, e.g.:
- Kilkenny don't have to concern themselves with football, so at the crucial time of year around September/October, they're able to alternate weekends between minor hurling and adult hurling.
- Some other counties operate Minor at U17, so a player in his 18th year can only play adult anyway, since he's overage for Minor. Remember we did this for five years but it was changed back when it was felt that not enough young lads were able for it at that age after all, and were drifting away instead.
- Others that operate at U18 don't have the same level of crossover between hurling and football that we do either, such that they could play minor hurling and adult football on the same weekend, with nowhere near the same proportion of players being affected as would be the case here.

That motion with the proposed 46-hour rule does appear to try address things, but I'd still foresee a situation when both Minor and adult championships are in knock-out stages and fixed for the same weekend. A talented Minor wouldn't be allowed play in both, and rather than the club just making a decision on where he's needed most, they'd likely look to get one or the other match changed. And then when that's not allowed, there'd be all sorts of giving out.

Most counties are back at u18 for minor now.
The reasons for letting minors play adult obviously don't include making fixtures easier to arrange. Not sure why you are dwelling on this.

Also the Leinster Junior A final between GCC and Kilkenny CBS is on clubbertv tomorrow at 1pm. GCC beat Kierans already. St Mary's Enniscorthy also beat Kierans in this years competition, but got knocked out by Counsel in the SF.

There's actually more Wexford lads involved in the Freshers Div 1 League final tonight than there are from any other county.

I think its a bit unfair on Kinnerk, Mcgeehan and the process as a whole to be discussing it at all when the final report isnt even done yet. There were other more pertinent points raised about it on the night. Bear in mind the whole point of the review in the 1st place was finding ways to make Wexford more successful at intercounty level.

The Freshers div1 League final is on tonight between DCU and UL. Good luck to the 5 Wexford lads named to start, and the 3 named as subs. I did post a link for this, but the post never appeared. It can be streamed.
