Replying To Formertownie:  "Are you saying that kilanerin did nt benefit or they were just being accommodating to help a fellow club . I knuw i got a call from a kilanerin clubman asking to get my club on board at the time to help push it through in the vote . . I m quite sure it was nt for the benefit of tara rocks he was putting his time into the promotion of the temporary well being of tara rocks .
As has been mentioned here they had been relegated from senior and could do with a few new players to get them back up . Their underage were starting to make headway so a temporary measure would help them in the short term until their underage filled the gap again .
Of course tara rocks were in favour it meant survival and few years to try build again.
There were potntially huge benefits for both clubs why else would you agree to it ."
Pretty sure the vote was very close for Tara Rocks. I remember it being mentioned at a committee meeting at the time that they were fielding two teams and the committee were wondering why they wanted to join with Kilanerin. Had a quick look at the transfer form 2017, 31 players transferred to Kilanerin from Tar Rock, more than enough to field a team at the time. 28 transferred from Kilanerin in the opposite direction, Fast forward to 2025, 13 players transferred from Tara Rocks, 52 players transferred from Kilanerin, Its been a disaster for Tara Rocks. When you had over 30 players, and we have the benefit of hindsight, you'd have to wonder why they agreed to it at the time.

Replying To Pikeman96:  "Don't know. Don't recall the uncle ever speaking about that one!

Back to the 'Bible', though. There was no Intermediate Football at the time. It gives Junior titles to Ballyhogue in 1941 & 1955, and to your neck of the woods in 1945 (as Taghmon), in 1949 (as Camross), and in 1954 (as St. Munn's). No indication that there was any sort of a Ballyhogue/Taghmon/Camross combination for any of them, but that's not to say that it definitely didn't happen."
Did a bit of digging and it was in 1946. Think it was the only time that 2 teams from the same parish met in a Senior Championship game. Taghmon played Camross/Ballyhogue in Wexford Park. Camross/Ballyhogue won, but lost the SF to an Enniscorthy team. In 1947 Camross joined up with Taghmon.
Back in the early days from the 19th century up until the 40s there were a few teams, sometimes 3 or 4, from the parish competing in Wexford club championships some years, mostly Football but hurling too sometimes.

Blackwater - Ballyvaldon from the same parish played against each other in the first Wexford Hurling Championship back in 1888-89. I'm sure there is a few others aswell

Brilliant! They were probably mad days back then. More fighting than actual hurling or football :-)

Replying To beano:  "The great Phil Wilson not alone won three SFC in a row with Ballyhogue in 1962-64, but also a SH medal with Oylegate in 1963 and with Rapparees in 1978. Was he an isolated player for the hurling successes? A record unlikely to be broken all the same, across the entire country."
Daithi Burke in Galway plays football with Corofin and hurling with Turloughmore.

Lot of underage semi finals on this weekend - notably Minor championship which I still consider to be the best championship in a players career

Premier Final
Oulart V Rapps

Roinn 1 Final
Rathnure V Liam Mellows

Oulart had an escape against B/Gaels and only ended up winning in injury time after been behind for most of the game. Rapps beat Glynn in the other time. It must be a few years since Rapps have been in a Premier Minor Final? These are two very talented teams and will be a very good final. Paul Roche managing Oulart and Rossiter has been involved since Wexfords exit.

Rathnure beat Askamore handy enough yesterday with two early goals setting the tone. Liam Mellows overcame Shels by 2 points where there was a bit of a dust up near the end . Again it will be a very good final. Liam Mellows are very strong up the middle. Rathnure beat them by a few points in the league stages

Good to see rapps making the final . Mad to read ballinstraw and Liam mellows contesting so well at underage as well as ballhogue rath/cush . Remains to be seen if it improves the standard overall in the county in hurling . The fear is they concentrate more on football at adult through tradition just like a good underage footballer in oulart, buffers alley , rathnure, st martins etc . Like to see any of above traditional football clubs make senior hurling just to help prevent that scenario . Not saying that will happen but the anti football or anti hurling brigades in either code . Will always be there to downplay the dual player to try enhance their preferred codes chances.
I believe its detrimental to both codes having such a single minded approach .

B/Gaels and Liam Mellows have been strong in underage over the past number of years - especially in U16 and Minor. They always have big strong lads and I do think hurling is a big attraction to these guys now. Liam Mellows I reckon will hurl Senior in the next few years.

That said it is a numbers game as Portumna can allude to after been relegated at the weekend. They have struggled with numbers over the past few years (no different to Oulart / Rathnure / Alley) - Ballygunner in meanwhile have 60 U5 boys going into their primary school this year.

Glynn beat the rapps rather than other way around to keep up their impressive form at minor level iver last few years.

Ballyhogue and Slaney Harriers i believe meeting in final of division 2 minor.

Also I dont agree with this numbers business.
They had a genearational team end of.
They have the same numbers now at adult as they did all those years ago. They took their eye off the ball regarding underage during those successful years.
The same names that won medals on the pitch back then are only now helping out with their grassroots and they are now very strong at U12 to U14 level.
All the numbers in the World mean nothing without good coaches and people involved.

Agree having a generational team is important, but its far more likely that you will get a generational team of 15 at a grade if you have 50 boys at that grade, than it is to get a generational team of 15 if you only have 18 boys at that grade.

A need for good coaches is a given, a well coached panel of 20 at u12 might beat a poorly coached panel of 50 at u12 by the time they all get to minor.

Honestly dont know. K/K had small numbers. Ballyhale small numbers. Its very easy just to say we are not successful because we dont have 15 up to the age. I bet you Oulart and Glynn have at least half their team underage again next year and also lost half their team last year . Its not numbers with them. Rathnure numbers same now as last 10 years but their coaching is miles better and that's why they are becoming successful again.

Exactly and that's why other clubs are catching up that previously weren't competing.

There are a lot of clubs using the numbers excuse I think and you literally look at neighbouring clubs to them with smaller populations passing them out by virtue of the work being put in.

Granted some areas are struggling but many aren't, thuere just not doing the work imho.
