Heard it after the indo. A lot of driving today so got a lot of pods in. I'm hopeful but have to win Saturday we need to beat Dublin and Offaly. I think Galway are beatable and kk in the park is a lottery. Galway to me and might just be to me are very overrated. People on all these pods rate Galway on past achievements. We should have beaten them in the league and we battered them last year.

Actually did a bit of digging, went down a fair rabbit hole, interesting none the less. Cooney 58 appearances, 13-177 no.26 all time scorer, Mac 54 appearances 22-133 no.34 all time scorer, Lehane 56 appearances 5-128 no.46 all time scorer. All 3 around the average 3 points a game over their careers. Lehane only one of the 3 that wasn't free taker with Hoggy, Mac had a few years and Cooney has had few years but for vast majority been behind Canning and then on and off with Niland for a while. I dunno I kinda branch those 3 lads together in a lot of ways, Cooney probably had the highest peak, Mac probably had the most hurling ability and Lehane probably had the best physical gifts. All 3 struggled for consistency through Career, Cooney probably hit a lot more highs along his career with all the medals he won at club and county senior and underage. Think all 3 will all be ones people look back at and wonder did they get the most of them. On a side note Lee Chin is no.10 all time scorer, fair going considering he started as a back and midfielder. Has averaged 6 points a game over his career. He's only 16 points less than Seamus Callanan and in less games too

Jippo being named #26 makes me think he's starting Shane Reck not in the squad ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 445 - 17/04/2025 22:04:19 2602504 Link 0 |
Team posted, no Shane Reck but good to see Liam Ryan back on the panel goreyll (Wexford) - Posts: 148 - 17/04/2025 22:05:35 2602505 Link 0 |
Strong team named. Hopefully Shiner will be back for the next game. And Mac will hopefully be ok for the Galway game. Nice to see Jippo and Mikey named on the bench. Some other good options in the bench also, Jack Redmond, Seamus, Tucker, Niall Murphy, Darren Codd and Simon Roche were all decent enough this year and/or last year. It would be great if a couple of them came on and really had a good game. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15466 - 18/04/2025 07:32:33 2602523 Link 0 |
Team named without any major surprises Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3513 - 18/04/2025 08:01:35 2602524 Link 0 |
Mac had very few years as a freetaker. He doesn't even take them for his club. Lee has taken more frees than Seamus did also. It's a shame it's so hard to find scores from play stats.

What's the weather going to be like? Did you stick with the open side?

Hopefully Jippo gets some game time, 35/40 mins for him would be huge for us. Suspect the way Antrim line up probably played a part in the full back decision, can't imagine they'll be play too many in the full forward line and Simon probably be free if not him and Foley. Wexford by 8/9. Antrim have lost a good few lads who were massive during the Gleeson era of Antrim, I think they might have missed the boat a bit and away form has been pretty horrendous during that time anyways. But it being Wexford anything is possible and Antrim probably know that too.

I'm open to correction but as far as I recall Mac was only in frees for a few games. In his time we've had guiney, ian Byrne, Rory, Casey, Chin, Morris, Cian Byrne all taking frees Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3513 - 18/04/2025 09:39:08 2602533 Link 0 |
Apart from few injuries, it not a bad team at all. I agree with some of what the pundits are saying, Chin, Rory the recks, mac and ryan all our best players are very injury prone and we do not have the strength in depth to cover these lads(like a lot of counties). I still think we are missing real strength in depth, especially in the forwards, oisin foley(hopefully back next year)is a big loss. If you look at the forward options on the bench it a worry for me. Hopefully, Cillian Byrne, Simon Roche etc.. will push on in the next year or two. hunting (Wexford) - Posts: 1106 - 18/04/2025 10:21:26 2602541 Link 0 |
Didn't Jacko take a few as well? And Fanning has taken most of the really long ones.

Who have Antrim lost by way of big players? Cunnings injured, McManus retired.

Dry but overcast so a little cold. We're actually in the stand just to keep the smallest lad out of the rain Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3513 - 18/04/2025 10:42:23 2602547 Link 0 |
Surely he won't bring on Simon Roche. Isn't it the case that if he does he won't be able to play for the u20s? That would be a massive loss. Why then is he on the bench if he has no intention of playing him? Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 428 - 18/04/2025 10:45:34 2602549 Link 0 |
There in lies probably one of the biggest problems of the Wexford team over the last 11/12 years the fact so many lads taken frees. Probably only county during the 10s/20s who didn't have a set free taker like TJ, Horgan, Canning, Donal Burke etc. Forget how much Chin has improved on the frees from around 19/20 time. Mac had a the penalties for a long time before Fanning took over around 19 time. I think Cian Byrne is a very very good free taker and in time probably will take over from Chin. Young O'Brien coming up through minors is a very very good free taker and hopefully one for future.

He will be able to play u20 even if he starts tomorrow. Our u20s aren't out for a couple of weeks.
