Agree. Players need to ask themselves do they want to represent their county with pride. Offaly have never put a full effort into the qualifiers/ Tailteann Cup. I'd imagine they are training to move through the ranks in the league. For teams like Offaly, it's imperative that they see progress there so they can realistically compete for the likes of leinster and maybe even Sam. To play in the Champions League, teams need to finish near the top of their domestic league. The TC requires the opposite. It's a bit demeaning to teams IMO. Peak time of the season. Let's put this chap together so Provincial Councils can still feel significant. I respect Offaly for taking a stance. A county that never lacked the courage to stand their ground. Teams from division 2 and 3 will start of the year aiming to avoid this competition. It's like a mid season relegation. Maybe I'm wrong and this cup will get stronger and stronger. I think we are wondering why. Offaly are not Tyrone or Kerry, or even Meath or Down. So the mind boggles why they wouldn't take it seriously. Your first line shows that the TC has put even more value on the league in those divisions. If they want to play in the AI series then they need to get into Div 2. Offaly were closer to getting relegated to Div 4 than getting promoted from Div 3 this year so I'm not sure how they are prioritising training to move through the ranks of the league.
