Replying To ke40:  "I see the Rossie boys are in great form slating Offaly, expectations must be high going into the Dublin game, what are you expecting a 5-6 point win over the dubs for you next weekend?"
Absolutely not, just questioning why a team who have potenital with a good crop of AI winning U20s from a few years ago are not making it their business to do well in the TC. Seems like the ideal tournament to give them a platform to push on. I was questioning a theory that Offaly were prioritising league over the TC which doesn't seem to add up. Are we allowed question or are you only entitled to pose a question or an opinion if you are from a county winning All Irelands? Maybe you'd prefer if only Dublin and Kerry people were allowed to debate on here?

Waterford have won a second championship game in this year with a win over Longford. They'll probably miss out on the best 3 third places but they'll be reasonably happy with their year.

They do miss out which is a pity.
Did they ever win 2 Championship games in the one year before?

Five have exited the Tailteann Cup. Waterford the unlucky third placed team to miss out, with New York joining at the preliminary quarter-final stage.
I think all home teams will be expected to get through the preliminary QF. Leitrim v Wicklow possibly the closest. The 4 group winners will have home advantage in the quarter-finals. The 4 favourites to make the semi-finals. Antrim are the most dangerous of the rest. They won 2 and drew 1. Sligo will be the happier group winner that they get to avoid Antrim.
TAILTEANN CUP PRELIMINARY QUARTER-FINALS
Leitrim v Wicklow
Laois v New York
Limerick v Tipperary
Antrim v London
QUARTER-FINALS
Kildare v preliminary quarter-final winner
Sligo v preliminary quarter-final winner
Fermanagh v preliminary quarter-final winner
Down v preliminary quarter-final winner

Leitrim aren't actually playing at home they're playing in Longford as Pairc Sean is getting a new pitch laid.

Antrim football is definitely on the up. Andy McEntee and his team are doing a fine job and this is a competition we could win if we just had a bit more belief. There's good footballers in the county but we need to be more streetwise and ruthless at this level. There's periods in games we look very good but others when we are a bit naive and give away poor scores.

That post could be written about Sligo just the same as Antrim. We are very similar. We can take great scores and give away terrible ones also. Ye have a serious athletic keeper

Five teams with strong Tailteann ambitions is good competition. While the current format has a lot of critics, all the counties eliminated so far can't have any complaints. Whoever gets knocked over the coming weeks can't have much complaints either.
Leitrim v Wicklow the standout from the below. Limerick, Antrim and Laois should safely navigate their way through the other PQFs.
TAILTEANN CUP PRELIMINARY QUARTER-FINALS
SATURDAY 8 JUNE
Leitrim v Wicklow, Glennon Bros Pearse Park, 7pm
Limerick v Tipperary, Rathkeale, 4pm
SUNDAY 9 JUNE
Antrim v London, Corrigan Park, 2pm
Laois v New York, Laois HIre O'Moore Park, 12.30pm

Considering the poor turnout for these games, would it not be better to try to match these matches with the senior competition as double headers, even if all matches were at neutral venues

This is a great cup for the players involved but apart from the final its of little interest to supporters. The early rounds should be ran off over a weekend or 2 in a blitz, 30min per game. The finalists should go forward to play New York and London in the first round of the following years championship. It would be a great experience for counties outside Connacht to head off to NY and also mighty for the Exiles out there. It would also make for a proper game between teams of equal standing, and not the humbug of having division 1 teams rout NY and London as happened last month.

The trip to NY is as much about bringing a counties US exiles together as anything else.
Removing NY trip from Connacht would remove a big occasion from the Mayo/Galway/Roscommon diaspora.

Not sure sending Meath or Kildare to NY would have as big a US diaspora - those lads only go to Dublin for a bit of work - don't really emigrate to the states

I see your point, but the gap is so wide between Div 1 teams and NY that you would be better served sending out your FBD league team/ only players from junior/intermediate clubs and make a game of it. your 1st team learn nothing going over there

Excellent game between NY and Laois, NY are improving and deserve their place in the competition. If they were able to enter the league they'd only improve

Limerick got past Tipperary yesterday. Leitrim will be disappointed to have lost out to Wicklow yesterday. Laois got past New York today. Antrim currently taking on London in the remaining preliminary quarter-final.

Good effort by New York when you consider they haven't played since the first weekend of April and were well beaten by Mayo in that game. It's also highlight the current state Laois are in, hard to see them getting close to beating any of the group winners next weekend. Wicklow of the prem Quarter final look the best bet of causing upset though the likes of Down,Sligo,Kildare should be reaching the last 4.

New York had a great goal chance in the second half which would have put them in the driving seat with an extra man but messed it up. There was even a player free .

Well, it shows that NY's win over Leitrim last year was no flash in the pan. Home advantage is even more important when the lesser minnows of the game go head-to-head. Were the game played in NY, it could well be NY 1-13 to Laois 1-09.

Laois were very convincing winners of League Division 4. Most Irish teams have 10-12 games played before they hit the championship. Were NY to play more regularly, which isn't practical, against Irish counties, it is no overstatement that they could competitively compete at the upper half of Division 3.

More regular games have brought London on a lot. They're no longer the whipping boys of Div. 4 where once it was 7 played, 7 lost for them. Isn't it great to see the overseas teams beat the Irish counties?

If they'd won they'd have to fly back next weekend for the quarter final correct? Dunno how practical that would have been for them
