The weakest team or 2 in that province in any given year never even played Kilkenny. Noone is saying the 2 or 3 best teams in Munster in any given year aren't better than most of the Leinster teams in any given year, but it's frankly nonsense to say for example that the 2022 Tipp and Waterford teams that finished the round robin would beat any of the Leinster top 4 teams handily, or even beat them at all.

Out of interest the last time your own county was knocked out of the championship, where were the team that beat you from? And the time before that was it a Munster county knocked you out? No it wasn't. Clare were the last Munster county to knock Limerick out of the championship and it wasn't today or yesterday.

Last time a Munster county knocked Limerick out was Clare in 2016.

The reality is put all the teams in the same championship. The top 8 would show four or five from Munster. One or two from Leinster and one from Connaught. Ulster would make it with one in the top ten. Kilkenny would still be as usual be in the top two. Limerick are still number one. Galway would be in the top four as would Clare. Tipp, Cork and Wexford and Waterford chopping at the ones in the top four. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2866 - 04/05/2024 14:28:30 2542815 Link 0 |

I see this was written 90mins before 4pm. Galway looked closer to Joe McDonagh cup than 'top4' today.

Again a once off like Tipp and Wexford and not a reflection where these teams are in the pecking order. Henry would be better off staying in Kilkenny as he has brought absolutely nothing to Galway. Most of the time he looks like a deer in the head lights.

Can Cork reach the knockout stages of the AI hurling ? Redhot (Cork) - Posts: 739 - 17/05/2024 18:53:27 2545321 Link 0 |
Yes. If Cork beat Tipp, they'll finish on 4 points. If Tipp, after losing to Cork, draw their final game v Clare, they'll finish on 2 points. If Clare, lose against Waterford, and draw with Tipp, they'll finish on 3 points. Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2654 - 18/05/2024 08:43:01 2545336 Link 0 |
Yes IF Cork beat Tipp Clare beat Waterford and Tipp Limerick beat Waterford (forget Catherine's nonsense of Clare losing to Waterford and drawing with Tipp ;) ) MiAmigaVERONICA (Clare) - Posts: 317 - 19/05/2024 11:10:55 2545532 Link 0 |
Cork beat Tipp and Clare beat Waterford today and if Clare beat Tipp and Limerick beat Waterford in their next games does that mean that Cork are still in the AI Hurling championship ?
Redhot (Cork) - Posts: 739 - 19/05/2024 17:58:17 2545633 Link 0 |
Yes cork would still be in with those results,a draw in limerick/Waterford and cork would be out. CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2379 - 19/05/2024 18:14:58 2545637 Link 0 |
Yes. In that scenario, it would be a Clare v Waterford final and Cork would edge Limerick for third place on the head-to-head rule. It is also possible for Cork to finish level on points with just Clare or just Waterford - in either of those cases, Cork would be eliminated on the head-to-head rule. Finally, it is possible for 3 teams to finish on 4 points and if that happens, Cork would go through based on scoring difference. It is very hard to see Tipp beating Clare though so a 3-way tie is highly unlikely.

Cork are definitely still there. The only permutation for them to lose out, according to my calculations, would be if Tipp beat Clare, and Limerick and Waterford draw. Then Clare, Waterford and Cork would all finish on four points but Cork would lose out as the score difference is only relevant in the games those teams play against each other. I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong. In that case Cork would miss out, with Clare and Limerick going into the Munster final, and Waterford advancing as the third team. I think Clare are already assured of a Munster final place, with their opponents either Limerick or Waterford.

Well the thread proves don't judge too early. If Clare beat Cork then Cork will be 50/1 to win the All Ireland and then they will beat Limerick and have their odds slashed to 10/1 .Then they will destroy Tipp and become one of the favourites for the All Ireland. Cork are 5/1 for all Ireland. Limerick 4/9. Limerick and Waterford draw next weekend and Cork are out.

If Limerick and Waterford draw and Clare win, Cork are out. Limerick and Clare Munster final with Waterford in third place. If Clare lose, and Limerick and Waterford draw, Clare, Waterford, and Cork all on 4 points. Limerick on 5 points. Then as it comes down to scoring difference, cork and limerick contest Munster final…depending on how much Tipp beat Clare determines 3 rd place……. No draws next weekend please!!!!

I guess and I am only guessing that Limerick and Waterford could play for a draw as it would put both of them through as long as Clare beat Tipp

Well Limerick best Waterford and Clare beat Tipp today so that means that Cork are still in this years AI hurling championship ? But the question has to be asked the penalty that Cork were awarded in the last minute of their game against Limerick which kept them in the AI was it a penalty ?
