The Limerick 5 In A Row, Will They Do It?

Replying To Viking66:  "Like I posted already, in the 1st 5 or so posts on the thread, they are going to win the 5 in a row. I've been drawn into posting more stuff about history because there have been posts posted that just aren't right. I don't think they are going to win because they won their 1st in 1897. I think they are going to win because their 3 main challengers, including yourselves, aren't as good at modern hurling and have weaknesses they will exploit."
Or maybe you're just a professional poster with over 11,000 posts, and are addicted to this site. Limerick certainly unlike Wexford, have given you something to post about over the last while! I have to laugh when I see all these new Limerick supporters from other counties since 2018! It will be a good Munster championship and every game will be a war! Limerick vs Clare in Ennis is only a few weeks away , and Kilkenny and Galway are again looking strong in the Leinster competition.Respect to all these counties and players for the effort they put in!

I think Cork will surprise a few teams this year.

I've wondered the same Ryanteam. This Viking chap is either a. retired or b. works professionally for HS. Either way, I'm not sure why he feels the need to respond to every single post. Wish I had all that free time.
Getting back to the original question; I do believe Limerick have a fantastic chance of completing the 5-in-a-row. Is it a cert? by no means.. Really looking forward to Pat Ryan's second season in charge, and hopefully we can see an improvement on last year. I do feel we will come out of Munster, and who knows after that.
While we did start the league poorly, we finished on a high - albeit against weaker teams - so hopefully this gives us momentum going into the Waterford game.

I don't think it will be a surprise if Cork win Munster/All Ireland this year.

If you think back to last year year they barely lost to Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds and barely lost to Clare in Ennis. A score in either match would have put them in the Munster Final. They are home to Limerick and Clare this year and they are strengthened with players from numerous All-Ireland Winning underage teams who have had an extra years experience at Senior Intercounty level since last year. The Pedigree of Cork, this year far outweighs the Current Limerick team when they emerged in 2018. Cork are a sleeping giant. In Limerick we hoping to steal one more before they wake up

As another poster stated "Munster will be War" this year

I'm not a professional poster, but I do work by myself so probably post more than I should. I've also been posting a long time, long before 2018. And if you look back at my posts you will see I've followed Limerick in Munster since the 90s. You will also see from the teams I support, in GAA and other sports, that they're all underdogs, just as Limerick were when I started supporting them in Munster.
Just in case you missed it in soccer I follow Cliftonville and Millwall and have been to the Den and Solitude over a hundred times each probably. In GAA terms apart from Wexford, I'd also follow Limerick once they aren't playing Wexford, and Antrim and Tyrone from my time living in both in the late 80s early/mid 90s.
Wexford have given me plenty to post about during the time I'm posting on this forum, though agreed it's been far from positive stuff some of the time!

Wish I was retired! I'm self employed and a lone parent! I don't feel a need to reply to everything. I only post on threads that I have an interest in at the time. Mostly hurling but football also. Occasionally I'd look at the non GAA thread.

I enjoy your posts and your insights.
I also appreciate how measured your posts are in comparison to some of the hysteria on here sometimes.
Keep them coming.
Unfortunately a lot of decent posters have stopped for one reason or another especially since the county forums were discontinued.

Why does what a Viking does with his time have anything to do with either of ye. He can do what he wants and I for one value his contributions here over the years. He is a Wexford fan and contributes during the highs and lows.

Never mind these pair Viking. Keep them coming……

Replying To Viking66:  "Any of the lads I know in Limerick had Clare pegged as dark horses. They had won 2 of the previous 4 AI U21 championships by the time of the AISF, and had reached another u21 AISF having won Munster again. Waterford had a good team that time and Clare beat them well also. They did think they were slight favourites, but many were worried about the long gap, 5 weeks, since the Munster final also. None thought they just had to turn up."
It's always funny how after a team losing after being hugely hyped up say them or no one they know were part of it.

Also how are my posts anti Limerick?

I suppose anti Limerick might have been a little strong. But you did say they hadn't won anything in 70 years! The friends I have up there were worried before the Clare game. Not after it. Remember these are lads who were in Croke Park in 94, and 96, and were too young to remember 73. They remember the lads on the good u21 teams of the early noughties who won multiple AIs at that grade, and never won a Senior one.

Again easy to say you were worried about something after the fact.

As for someone who's so worried about facts. Is it a fact that Limerick won one All-Ireland from 1940 to 2018?

Yes, Mark Coleman broke his jaw in training camp in Dingle, but is back training again, and should be in contention for the Waterford game. The half back line of Millerick, Joyce, and Rob Downey looks solid, so Mark may be destined for a midfield spot. Robbie O' Flynn has been plagued by hamstring injury, and seen little action, but Alan Connolly is a welcome return and big things are expected from him.Competition for starting places is intense, and all eyes are for Walsh Park in April for what will be a huge opening game against Waterford.

Yes to the last part and yes to the first, though as regards the 1st part you obviously aren't reading the posts of mine that you are complaining about. All the Limerick people I knew were worried about the Clare game BEFORE it, not after it. Maybe you should meet a few more people on the ground around the country instead of relying on pundits for your opinions, most of whom said Limerick were certs for that semifinal against Clare, and who mostly weren't from Limerick in any case.
As regards the last part of your post, that's not too bad for any team outside the historical big 3, all the rest of us have had droughts lasting longer than the 45 years Limerick had to wait between 1973 and 2018.
Glad you have realised now that their longest drought wasn't the 70 odd years you thought it was. We all learn new stuff every day;-)

Cork's team for the Waterford game won't be too far off the following…. Midfield is as yet unsettled and it will be interesting who is selected there…………. Collins, E. Downey, Cahalane, O' Donoghue, Millerick, Joyce, R. Downey, Coleman, Tommy O' Connell/Tim O' Mahony, Dalton, Harnedy, Fitzgibbon, Horgan, Connolly, Barrett/Hayes. Replacements; Sean Twomey, Niall O' Leary, O' Flynn,Brian Roche, Jack O' Connor,Eoin Roche, Kingston, Lehane, Meade, Ethan Twomey. Waterford will be hungry to atone for a disappointing league and Davy will have them primed for a massive test in Walsh Park.

You are 100% correct. A vast gap without securing the top prize making what they've achieved now remarkable but also very difficult to concede it away. Limerick have had many great teams in that time but for one reason or another didn't get over the line. Limerick have had 2 generational teams in their history and the present one possibly the greatest the game has seen.

History is history and all countys have had fallow periods . Limericks AI wins have covered 126 years and 12 total. The current team have swept all before them and as the thread says they are attempting to do what no one has in the history of the sport. They've already achieved numerous records in the history of the game. A great game.

Cork look to have a serious panel. I've felt myself personally (only personally) that they would be the next county to win the AI after Limerick. They have the potential, resources, fan base, experience and talent coming through to push on this year. They are still struggling to see out the tight matches. Possibly their biggest hurdle to still be jumped.
