Perspective is everything. When Mayo were winning Connacht tiles for fun we were laughed at for celebrating it. Nowdays we absolutely would take it because we ain't winning an all Ireland.

"Neither team will be full strength" both I expect to play their strongest available teams. The winner is into the Quarter final with a two week break/advantage over their last eight opponents.

It only holds 23900, It should easily sell out. We have been hearing for years that the Dubs don't mind travelling, Well now's the time to prove it. Mayo will bring 7-10 Thousand easily when its a lot closer than a trip to the capital. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1186 - 05/06/2024 16:51:11 2549743 Link 0 |
There were 8,000 Dubs in Cavan for an inconsequential game. I'm sure at least that number - tickets allowing - will make it to Hyde for a match against one of our keenest rivals and with a real stake at issue.

Maybe I'm being a bit too unrealistic here but I would have thought a Dublin v Mayo game in a small venue like Hyde Park in a Championship game would have sold out by now. Which to me (and hopefully to the GAA) is a clear red flag. Clearly not the same demand as there was in past 10 years for this fixture. Probably would be different if it was a knockout fixture.

As said in another forum Dublin followers fed up of winning and are picking and choosing which games to go to. Mayo followers know their team is a long way off the 2011 to 17 one and are doing likewise. So group games the obvious ones to stay away from. Boring games and lack of contenders for Sam not helping either. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1955 - 08/06/2024 21:52:07 2550243 Link 0 |
Only 35,000 in Croker today for a double header. A lot of low attendances this year. But dont let that change the narrative..... Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3980 - 08/06/2024 22:22:26 2550247 Link 0 |
A bigger crowd than was originally expected but then again this was hurling and not football where the attendance figures are all trending in the wrong direction…… A huge attendance expected and guaranteed today in Thurles for the Munster HURLING final…. See the trend anyone…?

11,000 or so up on last year to be fair. Would've been 40k plus had they played it on Sunday imo. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13779 - 09/06/2024 12:01:45 2550290 Link 1 |
4 good competitive Tailteann Cup games this weekend, proving again that this system is really working. Great to see most of the players, the main stakeholders buying into it.

Any word on what attendances were at the 4 Tailteann Cup games this wkd? macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1142 - 09/06/2024 17:27:29 2550371 Link 0 |
There's that word again 'stakeholder's' that only someone who is clueless about the game would make….!

Care to expand on that? What's wrong with using stakeholder? KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3674 - 09/06/2024 18:43:04 2550389 Link 1 |
That trend will go the opposite way with the way Limerick are going.....

Won't happen anytime soon…. Hurling is entertaining and that's why people will continue to pay In regardless of how many times the one team wins… The boring nature of Gaelic football has driven thousands and thousands away from the game…. Simple logic really

45,690 sell out at Limerick v Clare in Munster Hurling final today - this along with 270k at Munster hurling to date creates a new record of 316k beating the 2023 record year of 310k . OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 717 - 09/06/2024 20:21:26 2550412 Link 0 |
Apart from the Final crowds in the Leinster SHC were modest enough, even those games between the "big 4". 315,000 overall at the Munster SHC. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1955 - 09/06/2024 20:30:29 2550414 Link 0 |

Ah it's pointless trying to debate with a lad that "doesn't know what he doesn't know". I don't give his nonsensical posts any credence any longer. Of course you and I know there are many stakeholders in the GAA but the most important when it comes to games are the players. And players want to play games in well organised competition. We now have that with the Sam and Tailteann Cup format. Ask Derry when jeopardy starts. Looking forward to some great games this weekend.
