re. square balls i watched gillanes second on my computer with slow motion and freeze frame and his leg had not touched the ground when the ball crossed the small square line imo so jackie and co had 10 different cameras and judged it was a square ball how can any umpire decide this. this is part and parcel of our great game dont ruin it with technology

Considering the trip to Cork on Sunday i hope Lohan and the Clare team are coping better with the result than you seem to be.
Every team/ county has something to be aggrieved about at some stage.
It's all part of sport.. Time to let this one go I'd say.

Thanks for good observation hillman. Speaking of missed calls by ref... it's unfathomable to thing that Cleary did not get a second yellow card followed by a red card for blatant pull down near end of game.... or black card and penalty...possibilites endless....Cleary should not be allowed anywhere near De Park in Cork on Sunday....

sorry clooney but if calls went our way 76000 people in croke park in 2019 seen a 65 to limerick in injury time with kilkenny a point up but no official spotted it thems the breaks

I thought the same watching it but held back to watch some of it back on TV. He should have at least got a booking in the first few mins when Gillane went past him to be dragged back. He has his arm around his stomach constantly half the time and then the narrative is that both of them are pushing and shoving. In reality i probably say fair play to him though, he kept Gillane relatively quiet and if he can get away with it then why not do it. Its his job to push the edges, its the refs job to enforce the rules. We got the rub of the green at the end of the match so we can't complain but this Limerick made their own luck in the last 15 mins. The tactical changes of dropping the lines deeper to leave more space to run into and create a crowded area to win the loose ball. moving Cian Lynch back to sit and dictate, getting Hayes and Nash to attack, bringing on Boylan to turn the half back line and bringing in Adam English to add energy to the middle and hoover second ball, quietly moving Hego in corner forward all worked a treat.

I also thought watching the match we had a lot of soft frees go against us but watching it back we did commit a lot of silly fouls that the ref was correct to reward. We will need more discipline in the tackle.

I get what he is saying though, if you don't get the 50/50 calls on the day you will probably accept it but still feel a bit aggrieved and disappointed. I know I would.
The lesson or challenge is to be good enough to drive on and still win despite the setbacks

I hate referee bashing but id like to add one observation. I had absolutely no problem at all with colm lyons decisions giving frees against limerick for the one armed tackle and use of the hurley in the tackle. Its what HQ want to stamp down on. However the like of hegarty and hayes are not reffed to the same degree. There was imo a lack of consistency in applying those rules especially when those two players were in possession.

I'd also like to make another point. Lyons I felt fell into the media driven trap that somehow Gillane is the instigator in the Annual Ongoing Cleary/Gillane wrestling match. There is one man trying to hurl and another literally trying to obstruct. Cleary for vast majority of the match had his back to the play constantly impeding/pulling and holding Gillane and obstructing his ability to run and show for the ball. There is only one man actually trying to hurl in that battle. Surely there should be a close scrutiny on this. In most sports if you've your back to the play and in its in play you're getting a free against you.

Cleary is doing his job but his job is not legal imo. It became a complete farce for a finish and possibly why the match didn't really ignite till yellows were handed out. But as you said he'll continue doing it until the ref intervenes. I noticed 4 frees against Gillane and 2 against cleary. Gillane shows incredible patience and discipline every time they meet. Serious maturity as that must be so frustrating.

Flanagan got off his game because Hogan started doing the exact same thing after Flanagan started well on Hayes and was pulled to the ground. Seamus unfortunately had his first experience of this and played the man not the ball for the first time I've seen him. Lesson learned. If HQ really want to stop one armed tackles , throws, steps etc... I'd start with allowing lads to actually play the game in the first place. Don't get me wrong I'm not naive to think that you can't have a bit of dark arts back there and there has to be a degree of gamesmanship against the best players but that became farcical and such an ugly look for what was being billed as a great match and one of the highlights of the hurling year.

Any thoughts on the team for Sunday? Sean Finn for M Casey through injury is a certainty but will JK be tempted to give A English and P Casey a start. With DOD still out A English is probably the most natural midfielder and Cian best position is centre forward. Tom Morrissey and S. Flanaghan probably most under pressure and struggling for form. Is bringing a player struggling for form off the bench the best option rather that heaping more pressure on him by starting? I would think JK may be go with this. Harsh on D Reidy and CON but I think this is the most balanced team with players in their best positions.

N Quaid
S. Finn D.Morrissey B. Nash
D Byrnes D Hannon K Hayes
A English WOD
T Morrissey C Lynch G Hegathy
A Gillane S Flanagan P Casey

Pity O Donovan is still out, I felt they missed him badly on Sunday. He's got some engine.

I'd say Casey or o dalaigh to start before Flanagan..I'd start Tom again because he always plays well against tipp..looking at tipp team I wouldn't be overly worried..think a few places we can take advantage of..cmon limerick..

David Reidy and Cathal O Neill were two of the top performers last week. Why would they be left out this week?
Peter Casey is not guaranteed to start next Sunday but if he does it is very unlikely to be at the expense of either of those two.

You hit the nail on the head here...Clare full back line seemed to be only trained to stop players hurling and arm wrestle and holding seems to be their only tactics , can cleary actually hurl at all or is it all fouling and holding hes there for, the referees should be clamping down on this negative ugly stuff.

This year's Tipp team doesn't appear to be nearly as strong as last year. Barrett and Kennedy are two great warriors who will be sorely missed, while Noel McGrath and McCormack are deemed worthy of only a place on the bench now. I don't believe Tipp have found adequate replacements and on that basis it is hard to see them pushing Limerick like they did last year.

Wish all the best to Casey great goal horiffic injury. But Limerick are a juggernaut, two cliches come to mind, best placed man gets the ball and hardwork will never beat talent if talent works hard, they unstoppable.

Hard to comment on the game after what happened to Casey, gutted for him. He was flying it on his first game back.
Wishing him a speedy recovery
