Dublin Advantage?

Replying To BarneyGrant:  "Why don't you go to your club, assuming you have one, and get them to put a motion to the county convention demanding that championship matches involving Dublin - up to and including AI semi finals, finals even? - should be played at neutral venues. If successful then it can go to Congress.

Alternatively, you can guilt bomb sad oul fellas like myself on social media :-)"
You can't put forward a motion to take the Dubs out of Croker Park
CP is open for any county or provincial council to apply to use as Ulster have done for a few Ulster finals.
The Dubs would be mad not to use it for both the crowd reasons and also to give their players an advantage of playing in the surroundings.
There is nothing stopping any county from applying to play their home games in CP the fact that it is in Dublin makes it easier for the Dubs to use it

I think this is the thing, ironically Kildare used it as a "home ground" in the Micko years. Meath used it as a home ground under Sean Boylan, i think Laois were similar. There was some ma stat that Darren Fay went something like a decade playing for Meath without ever playing in Navan. Id say Karl O Dwyer played the very few games in Newbridge as opposed to Croker. Neither Meath or Kildare don't because they aren't getting a crowd North of 5k for most of their games.

Ultimately all GAA grounds (bar one or two exceptions) are owned by the GAA, sure their management is handed over to County Boards - as a delegate of the GAA - but their are no "our ground". Dublin own Newbridge as much as Kildare Kildare own Dublin - as they are all ultimately owned by the GAA - its why the GAA bail out County Boards when they cant pay back loans on these grounds.

Its just tradition and logistics really - how people refer to home grounds - most Counties play in the counties biggest GAA ground owned by the GAA, Kildare do it Newbridge, Mayo do it Castlebar - in Dublins case its Croke Park - so if Newbridge in Kildares "home ground", Croke Park is Dublin's. So all the home dressing room stuff is a nonsense.

Dublin should absolutely play more games outside Croke Park, but its a money making racket particularly by the Leinster Council.

It's funny how Dubs always use the "we play where we're told" or "it's others who vote for it" line as if to say their own CB vote against it.

Replying To Sweetspot:  "Well, statistics show home advantage to be worth 4 points in Gaelic football.. Kildare played Dublin twice now in Croke Park this year, losing by 1 and 2 points. The last time the sides met in Newbridge (2022) Kildare won. The time before that (1995), Kildare won. Make of it what you will…"
Where can I get my hands on those stats please regarding home advantage in GAA?

It's no coincidence Dublin started winning All Irelands the year they started to play all their league games at home. Croke Park is Dublin's home ground. Home advantage in any sport gives a team advantage. Their nuetral match should be in a nuetral location like every other team. The GAA have alot to answer for this.

Replying To MesAmis:  "Dubs will play where they are told to play.

The other Leinster Counties could have every single Dublin match outside of Croke Park if they so wished.

In 2016 Laois were rightly angered that they had to play Dublin in Kilkenny.

In 2017 Carlow were annoyed that they had to play Dublin in Portlaoise, Laois not so vocal this time around.

In 2018 Wicklow had to travel to Portlaoise as well to play Dublin. Both Laois and Carlow very quiet.

In 2019 Louth annoyed about not having a home game, of course Wicklow, Laois, Carlow all stayed silent.

Glen Ryan the latest to give out about all this, yet time and again Kildare vote for this happen."
Galway's underage hurlers have to travel to most of these venues all the time, to participate in the Leinster hurling championships, and they don't get any Leinster championship fixtures at venues west of the Shannon. You'd hope that the Galway squads aren't the type of lads that get sick on long bus rides, but I'm sure that'll all be assessed at the inquest of the 2023 Galway U20 campaign.

It was a massive coincidence though that they had some class footballers that year and the years that followed.

Croke Park is the national venue, the biggest games are played there, and there's absolutely no doubt that playing all of your home games there is going to give some kind of advantage.

Come All Ireland semi-final or final day - how many games will Dublin have played there in comparison to their likely rivals at that stage (Kerry, Mayo, Galway etc..) You'd have to be a fool to think that it's not a factor.

Familiarity alone is a massive factor, and Glenn Ryan was definitely right about some of the dark arts that Dublin are at on the sidelines and in the dressing rooms, and it tight games - those are huge things. Croke Park should only be used for League Finals, Leinster Final (as it's the best stadium in the province) and All Ireland 1/4 final onwards.

Dublin nor anyone should be allowed to use Croke Park as a home venue. I'm not for one second attributing Dublin's success to the fact they get to use Croke Park as a home venue, but at the very top level, in those tightest games, sometimes little things like familiarity and crowd support get you over the line.

All grounds are vested in the GAA. Not owned by the GAA.

A very important distinction which renders much of the rest of your post absolutely incorrect.

Thats an odd viewpoint - because the GAA own the ground its everybody's home ground?

Easy solution is for every county to declare their home ground at the start of the year. Where a match is to take place at a neutral venue - it should be in neither county's home ground.

We should also specify what games should take place at Croke Park regardless of who's in them (Leinster Final, All Ireland Semi final & Final in my opinion).

Croke Park is a neutral venue for every county bar Dublin (assuming they nominate it as their home ground). So Mayo V Cork could be played there but Dublin V Sligo (assuming the finals go as per the bookies) certainly should not.

Literally makes no difference though.

Dublin is one county out of twelve in Leinster. One out of thirty-two in the country.

You don't have to be a mathematical genius to see the truth in what we're saying.

Except that Dublin have played the majority of their home league games in Croke Park since the inception of the league in the 1920s.

The more permanent move to Parnell Pk only happened in the late 90s.

The most talented team will always win, every time.

Dublin play in Croke Park because Parnell is to small and suits the Gaa but Dublin should look to develop a bigger ground.

Don't know where this myth comes from i watched Dublin play league games in Croke Park in the 90s. was a pound into, and you'd get three cans or bars from a pram for 50p.

I thought it was the funding that gave Dublin all their All-Irelands?

It undoubtedly does, but until all eleven other county boards decide to have all Leinster semi-finals played at neutral venues nothing will change. That's the only solution because Dublin are well within their rights to nominate Croke Park as their home venue for league and championship matches.
