Replying To moc.dna:  "Defending the indefensible, either some connection with the Hawkeye set up or the officials whose job is to oversee it in the Association.

There has being problems with Hawkeye for some time & they haven't been cleared up. Also instead of the GAA communications / PR unit coming out & making a statement on the issues showing transparency & clearing up any ambiguity, they toughed it out as usual. At this stage Hawkeye is done, the question must be asked as to how many games it has cost teams. If it were professional sport, there would be lawsuits. Questions about who has oversight on it in Croke Park must be answered as they were definitely asleep at the wheel, despite a number of red flag issues. Also is there independent governance of it on the day like the Lotto operators ? Hawkeye & Croke Park officials overseeing it failed in their roles, major PR disaster.

Nothing wrong with copying other sports that have successful systems & while they are at it, bring in the Time Clock like the LGFA, cut out the nonsense around black cards & refs giving teams another opportunity when games are tight."
Floodlights go out at soccer games sometimes causing abandonments, soccer/rugby referees have issues with their communications systems and even VAR/TMO get it wrong - no lawuits though. But with the GAA, an amateur sport with very little money involved in comparison, you are talking about lawsuits and oversight, red flags and governance! Wherever you picked up that vocab you need to adjust it accordingly for our game.

Other sports have serious officiating errors and by and large the officiating is done by professionals. Witness Ireland vs NZ last 2 weekends and horrendous errors committed even with benefit of TMO. Mack Hansen victim to a head high late tackle that was dangerous, yellow card only given. Ireland should have also had a penalty try and most damning of all NZ had a prop yellow carded and went to uncontested scrums which meant another player taken off. Never happened, incredible that officials didn't realise this, it's a law of the game, happened Italians in six nations. Perspective needed re our own officiating. We certainly get a lot right.

For the penalty incident yesterday, the 2 linesmen we're in front of goal consulting with the referee while the 2 umpires who we're both 6 feet from the incident stood beside the posts.
Galway v Armagh, Shane Walsh was assaulted more than once right in front of the linesman while the crowd behind him lost their minds.
Can they get their house in order and either encourage or allow the linesmen and umpires to do their jobs.

The celebrations down Noreside will last long into the evening.

Your right but the problem is that the two umpires don't stay on their posts. In yesterday's match there were times you see the umpire racing back to his post when someone shoots for a point. In a close match like yesterday every score is vital so the umpires should be on their game.

I actually can't understand why hawk eye is even needed in football, like the scoring zone is very small and the transition from defense to attack is a lot slower than hurling. I pity the umpires in hurling the top teams can score from nearly any angle you could never relax!

Liam's first place of abode was by Shannonside way back in 1921. He is quite at home there and has no great urge to roam. He is very happy also to be in a county in which the All Ireland Title has reposed in three different Centuries. He just loves the Real Traditional Hurling Counties. After all his mother was a Dineen from Bruff and as ye all know most people have a 'auld' soft spot for their mothers' homeplace.

Have you ever done umpire? Did you know that the umpire has to signal when the ball goes wide/45 which includes being over as far as the corner flag if necessary if two players are contesting the ball close to the end line. One umpire always has to be on the goal line or be in a position to get there quickly just in case. Can they, like players, not get blinded by the sun when it does come out? Give these volunteers some credit

Correction Oldtourman. The Liam MacCarthy Cup was first presented in 1923. The 1921 All-Ireland, won by Limerick, was played in 1923, due to the political upheaval of them times.

Ha ha! Yes, long into the evening indeed! I remember Kilkenny beating us in the final a few years back, walking out of the Cusack and thousands of the Kilkenny crowd already heading off down the road before before the Liam McCarthy had even been presented! I couldn't actually believe it. These people had no meas on it, no real respect for what that moment would mean to so many others in the game. Having witnessed that, I can't help but think that Kilkenny and Cody have won all they deserve, so up Limerick in the final.

Make the posts higher and string a big net from them, if the ball goes into the net it's a score, otherwise it's a miss, if you kick it in too high then that's your hard luck. No errors then or need to pay for hawk eye nonsense.
Long past time we had a video ref too.

Yes Cockney You are right, but that is a technical point. When Galway won the '23 Final, the following years Final was played three months. Bob McConkey, the only Limerick Hurler to win All Irelands in three different decades was Captain in '21.

I have an idea.

Why not have 2 guys standing at each post at each end, and 2 linesman keeping an eye on the shots as well.

That might work.

And why not have 2 other guys watching the 2 guys standing at the post to make sure they are doing their job…. What tosh…. Why not have qualified referees doing umpire instead of 4 guys the ref pulled out of the pub before throw in…? Now that's an idea……
