From reading what Farrell said O'Brien wasn't really available for the first two games which I hadn't seen mentioned anywhere. Better decision all-round with Henshaw missing. They didn't say if Ryan was out if they get through. Ryan is a loss but he was the one player that was not performing at the level he could up to this so Henderson may have got it anyway. Massive game for McCarthy, I though Baird would have got the call as he has that bit more experience in big games but McCarthy carried a bit more physicality and with him and Conan coming off the bench it will add more power to the pack.

Not contradicting myself I would never blame a ref for a loss. That was my point. I can say a ref can be poor at times but I will never blame them for a loss.

You seem to have an issue with every post I have since you were rambling about Ewan Mackenna and not understanding what that debate was about.

No, I don't think that was any source of concern for me really. I was probably more irritated by our Ciara MaGeean posts, and your daft appraisal that you knew more about my disposition, opinion and motive on the subject, than I'd known myself. This game in my opinion will be tighter than tight, nothing between the two sides with time almost up, I predict a full-time score with Ireland being victorious on a score of 25point to 22, I'll go further and predict the sides being level with a couple of minutes to go to full time when Johnny Sexton sends over a penalty for the winning score. Ireland 25 - - - - NZ 22, - final answer. Sorry for spoiling George Paul's party. PS - Surely there must be one or two posters out there who appear to know lots more about the game of rugby than I do that are brave enough to predict a final score.?? supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3084 - 13/10/2023 09:14:05 2508111 Link 2 |

Ryan and Henshaw big losses coming off bench for final quater. Still think we squeese into semi by 4/5 points. 25 to 21. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2207 - 13/10/2023 14:44:03 2508199 Link 0 |

I believe as a country we are on the cusp of sporting greatness so if, and when we achieve victory on Saturday, we will have one hand on the cup and the country will come to a near full stop. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3084 - 13/10/2023 21:29:34 2508273 Link 0 |
Heroic effort. I thought Jonny Sexton was a bit anxious of the place kicks. The first penalty of the game needed to be kicked, but we didn't seem to fancy it, and kicked to the corner losing the lineout. JS missed another 3 in the second half. That's 6, and we lost by 4. England won the 2003 RWC largely because they took points from ALL these kicking opportunities. Indeed if SA had a competent kicker in the recent pool game v Ireland, we'd have lost that game too. NZ missed couple also, so loss not down to place kicking. Lineout, especiall in first half was once again poor and most of our team were that little bit off, however credit to NZ played their best rugby when it really mattered. Enjoyed the journey while it lasted, dissapointed for all concerned, Just have to get behind the English now. All together now, Swing Low Sweet........

Heroic? there's like 10 maximum serious rugby countries in the world, and they can't get out of top eight. Like I said before. no different to Offaly beating Dublin in O'Byrne Cup or indeed Dublin beating Cats in Walsh.

They left it all on the pitch, and lost to a good team by small margin. Proud of them!

I remember some of the rugby crew here used to take great delight in calling the Dub "losers". BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3275 - 15/10/2023 02:16:21 2508397 Link 2 |

We got a try off the drop out from that missed kick. South Africa got a try off one of theirs coming back off the post. Kicking didn't lose us the match last night. Handling errors and the NZ tackle height not being reffed probably the 2 biggest contributors. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5215 - 15/10/2023 08:46:57 2508400 Link 2 |
Sexton didn't miss 'another 3 in the second half'. Plus, at least one of the kicks to the corner resulted in an Irish try.
